I have an option to purchase a set of 22/55/390mm wheels. They would go really well on my 86 635CSI. But the only tire I found to fit are $417.00 each. Can I fit another standard size tire on these rims ??
Any help would be appreciated.

That's 220/R55/390MM
Most owners of TRX wheels can't GIVE them away! Only TRX metric tires fit TRX metric rims.
Avon used to make TRX-sized tires, but I believe your only new option is Coker Tires' Michelins these days. Unless you plan to participate in concours or feel a great need for originality, spending $1600 for TRXs is foolish. For that kind of money, you can get a set of 16" basket-weave BBS wheels that are similar to the 415mm TRX wheels that came on the M6.
I have the wheels you refer to on my E28 535i (as seen on the red coupe below), and a set of the original E28 "bottle cap" TRX wheels that I'll run until the tires are worn out. Then I can bolt on my 16" Alpinas or E38 Style 5s!

John,
Thank you for the great advise and background.

I have a pair of the TRX wheels you originally mentioned (as seen on the first red coupe) that were refinished and have never had tires mounted on them, if you go that way.

If you're interested in a set of basket-weave styled wheels, a guy in NJ has a set of Ronal LS new in the boxes. A friend in TN has them on his '88 M6.
Bummer - just found the ones in NJ are for the E30 - 15x7.5 4x100. $1100 shipped.

Thanks again. The car has come with 5 spoke dynamic racing wheels (225 16s). I will keep in mind your suggestions in mind. Are these 16 " dynamic racing wheels special period correct ?
Racing Dynamics was around at that time, and holds the unique distinction of being the sole non-German BMW tuner to have a worldwide market presence. The company was founded in 1980 in Milan, Italy. The distinctive Racing Dynamics logo features a stylized version of the Pavoncelli (founder's) family crest, surrounded by the RACING DYNAMICS wording on an emerald green background.
Do you have the center caps? There may be a stamp on the backside or the hub of the wheels with a "born on" date. They are still in business (as RDSport in the USA), so whether your wheels are "period correct" depends on the styling.

Jim, Contact Electrodyne in Alexandria. They sold RD stuff before the fallout/split with RD S.p.A. and still sell their version of RD stuff. They might have parts catalogs or someone on staff from those days.
They still list wheel center caps in 65mm & 76.5mm diameters - $12.30 each.

John,
Emailed Electrodyne picts of the wheels. John Hazel was quick to reply that the wheels are RGP's and period correct. But they do not have any centers to fit. Something to look for at the next parts flea market.
Jim
Anyways, Do you have the center caps?
John, your attention to detail is inspiring. This is a very interesting thread. You are right about people giving the TRX wheels away. The previous owner of my 1988 M6 insisted that I take the TRX wheels. In fact he stated that I would have to pay him to keep them! The car was already on BMW E31 850ci wheels when I bought it years ago and I feel these work well with the E24's styling.
Bingo, the Racing Dynamics wheels do appear to be period correct. Having said that, the most important aspect is of course what you feel looks good on your car. Whatever you decide, I wish you many years of happiness with one of BMW's most beautiful automobiles.

I do like the RD wheels. I love the car. I'm embarrased to say, that I carry the keys around in my pocket at work and use them as a distraction.
