The Great Race (http://www.greatrace.com), a transcontinental auto race
featuring approximately 120 antique automobiles, has chosen Front Royal
as their first official Pit-Stop. The Race will cover 29 towns and
cities on it's 2,500-mile route from Washington, D.C. to Takoma,
Washington. It is fashioned after the famous movie "The Great American
Race", starring Tony Curtis. The Race will feature cars built before
1951. The first group of 30 cars will arrive in Front Royal at
approximately 1:30pm. Also planned for the day is a display of antique
cars from the Shenandoah Region Antique Auto Club of America, as well as
entertaimnet and special sales by Main Street businesses, beginning at
12:00pm. Main Street will become "Pit Road" during this event - open
only to Great Race Cars.
