24 Hours of Le Mons at Summit Point this weekend

On the Shenandoah Circuit since NASA's Hyperfest is on the main track. And not a true 24 Hour - 10 hours on Saturday (10a to 8p) and 4 1/2 Sunday (Noon to 4:30p). A number of BMWs will be competing.

One team is offering rides. Here's a chance to get a real feel for what it is like to be IN a race. And it's for a good cause.

    Press Release:
GOOD CAUSES AT SUMMIT: WOUNDED WARRIOR AND ALEX'S LEMONADE STAND

As you know, SpeedyCop's Wounder Warrior Racing is providing free rides to returning Iraq and Afghanistan veterans, and ten-lap stints for civilians who donate $100. In addition, racers can buy their way out of Judge Phil's heinous penalties by making donations to Alex's Lemonade Stand. Proceeds from the Lemonade stand go toward the continued research of neuroblastoma, a form of childhood cancer.

If you're in a generally charitable mood, donations can be made to either charity at the race--for Wounded Warrior, just track down SpeedyCop (his pit compound will be totally obvious), and for the Lemonade Stand, swing by the penalty box.

    Caddy on Dubs

    Woody-

I think the Speedycop car was a Yellow Caddy? If so it gets my vote for best car- srsly who runs a 24 hour endurance race on like 23 inch wheels and low profile tires?

The yelllow SpeedyCop car was a Pontiac Grand Prix. They were providing rides to Wounded Warriors and donors to the cause, raising over $6,000. When else can someone donate to a charity and get a ride during a race? The car was very slow but did a good job staying out of everyone's way.

With 105 entries (15 BMWs that I can think of), the Shenandoah Circuit was crowded but great fun. I only heard about two incidents of cars hitting barriers, but there may have been more. The race ran from 10 to 8 on Saturday and noon to 4:30 Sunday. Our Bavarian Crapper '91 318is had been repainted and is now the Chimp Gone-Nasti Racing car. This was it's fourth Le Mons race. In the third hour Saturday we lost 3rd gear. Who needs that at the Shenandoah? Coming out of the twisty bits in 2nd, an upshift to 4th saw lots of slower cars pass us. With 2 1/2 hours remaining on Sunday we lost 4th gear. Next time you're driving the Shenandoah, do a few laps only using 2nd and 5th. With quick stops for driver changes every hour or so, refueling everyother stop, and no black flags for contact, spins, or offs, we ended up 7th overall. We would have been very happy with that even if all the gears had been available. A 535 and a 325e (the Artsy car) were the only higher finishing BMWs. Pro driver Mike Skeen set the race's fastest lap in a 2,100 lb 318is. It was his first stint in the car and on that track. The overall winner, repeating their 2010 finish, was a big Mercedes S500 sedam.

Good question. Last year someone said the engine in that car is worth a couple of grand. I don't know if they were given any "BS" penalty laps. Or they may have paid a big bribe to the Judge.

Some pictures of the race by Michael Towery. He was driving the #12 Fast and Furriest Volvo wagon.
