    (2011) Official 2011 PAX Index

Based on our 2010 results, here are the PAX indexes for this year:

    S1 0.919
    S2 0.928
    S3 0.919
    S4 0.803
    T1 0.949
    T2 1.000
    T3 0.986
    T4 0.915
    M1 0.901
    M2 0.993
    M3 0.934
    M4
    X1 0.979
    X2 0.983
    X3 0.980
    X4 0.983

(NOTE: M4 does not have a PAX index - this is due to having no participants in 2010.)

Using a PAX index is easy. Take your best time and multiply by the PAX index. This results in your handicapped time.

Please let me know if you have any questions / comments.

Some interesting discoveries (well, maybe not that interesting):

Group 2 and Group 3 are faster than Group 1 on average.

    Group 1 0.923
    Group 2 0.974
    Group 3 0.946
    Group 4 0.859

Tuner is faster than Modified (this doesn't surprise me one bit):

    Showroom 0.892
    Tuner 0.963
    Modified 0.943

All X classes are within .004 of each other. This means that the times of the top performers in each non-BMW class are statistically identical. I assure you that my confidence interval is significantly less than .004.

Maybe we should go with Woody's idea of non-BMW classification by car color?

X2 and X4 have the same PAX??

That leaves their PAX time differences the same as their raw times.

    From this past event:
James Dunham- 44.171 Raw 43.42 PAX
Josh Luster- 42.854 Raw 42.12 PAX

    Both 1.3sec difference.

That's correct. Honestly, you can say that about all the X-Class cars - .004 isn't going to mean anything.

Interesting too that the theoretical fastest BMW class (Modified 1) is only faster than the theoretical slowest BMW class (Showroom 4).

I've seen .001 mean everything, but not very often.

PAX is a method of handicapping cars. It's also known as RTP (Racers Theoretical Performance).

Basically, it's a bench racing tool. Say you have a friend who runs in a different class and you want to compare results. Take your friends time multiplied by your friends PAX and compare it to your time multiplied by your PAX. The person with the lower time wins =) Some clubs also have driver of the year awards, etc.

Yes, you are correct. Because I know of no use of these PAX numbers (unless the AutoX committee would like to start releasing a PAX results list at the end of each event), it's merely a comparison tool.

Very cool Jonathan. I'm going to see if I can incorporate this into MSReg. That way it shows up in the results.

Wes, in the class setup in AxWare, you just need to define the PAX indexes. (It's under the setup options.) Takes 5 minutes. You're just importing registrations from AxWare correct? And letting AxWare generate the results?

    I believe so.

As far as MSReg goes all I seem to be able to do it add a name to the modifer. This is then added in front of the class in the export file. So I created Modifer A for S2 and this is how it shows up in the AxWare file export.

Class Number First Name Last Name Car Model
    AS2 200 Wesley Norman 2008 BMW 335i

You should have access to the support system at http://www.axwaresystems.com/index.php - download a fresh copy for yourself. I'll email you the license keys.

I think we have so few drivers that are anywhere near the limit of their class (both driving and car-prep) that PAX indexing times is meaningless for our events. The above anomaly proves that.

I think that's correct. Do you remember when we created the new classes? 2009? Maybe we could use results prior to 2010 to validate this a bit more.
