Removal of Painted-On Pinstripes

A friend just bought a nice 5 Series but it has pinstripes and they are painted-on. She hates them, I agree. Does anyone have experience with having these removed? She said she heard something about a rubber pad that I guess they use to buff them off. How invasive is the process? Sounds a little scary to me...

3M's rubber pad is for removing taped stripes. A little lacquer thinner on a microfiber rag will take off the painted stripe, but you will (typically) be left with a raised line/stripe where the color was.
