The Koni Challenge is no more

For the umpteenth time in the long history of this series that dates back to the Firehawk series in 1986, the title sponsor is changing to Continental Tires. What? you say - the series has used a spec version of the Hoosier R6 DOT tire for quite a few years now. Well it seems the large German tire manufacturer Continental and the boutique race tire manufacturer from Indiana have recently signed a joint marketing and R&D agreement.

At least one forum is speculating that the competitors will be using the same Hoosiers in 2010, but they will carry the Continental brand on the sidewall.

So again, the Koni Challenge is now the Continental Tire Challenge.

Dumb... but if it brings more attention and TV time for the series, I'm all for it. I thought the Koni agreement was for a substantial time period? ...and like Nick said, all the emphasis on switching to Koni, and now it may not be required with them out as title sponsor?

Someone on Bimmerforums posted that the use of Koni dampers is still mandatory. Therefore it must be true.

I wouldn't be shocked if Koni decided to let Continental buy them out of the full ride sponsorship.
