    Stereo repair

This is sort of off topic, but I was wondering if anyone knows of a car audio shop in the Silver Spring/Columbia, MD area that's good at troubleshooting. I need to have the wiring on a non-BMW looked at. The car keeps blowing out its amplifier.

The most knowledgeable Toyota tech I know is Jon Kohnen at Aerospace Shell in Lanham, MD (301) 794-8828. Not only does he have the paper certifications, was factory trained, but knows his stuff too. I know you wanted someone in Silver Spring, but to tell you the truth, when my Tundra is out of warranty, that's where I'm taking the vehicle. If you do go there, you have to request him...

Wherever you end up taking the vehicle, I suggest you drop it off since it has an electrical problem, not waiting around will save you some headache. Also expect at least 2 hours diagnosis on something like that, meaning $150-$200...maybe more.

    Good luck.

Audio Connection is a great shop. I've had them do several installs and also build me a few custom boxes. Though if it's factory wiring that's giving you a problem I would suggest taking it to specialist like Uber-Goober suggested.

    Update

Here's an update on my stereo issues. It turns out that there was nothing wrong with the wiring in the car. The problem was water getting into the rear fender well where the amp is located. There are a couple of drain tubes that pass through the area to drain outside the car and one had been dislodged and dumped water on the amp. Problem solved with a new rubber gasket to hold the tube in place and a new tube since I was in there.

    Thanks for the help.
