World Challenge at Road Atlanta Results!!

Lots of BMW Club members down here early for Oktoberfest got to witness an outstanding show by the 3 Bimmerworld 328s in the Speed World Challenge Touring Class race. James Clay qualified on the pole, but the wacky coin flip that inverts the top fove if you lose, meant he had to start 5th. He finished 2nd to Seth Thomas with Nick Esayian 3rd.
The podium celebratiion and paddock party were great.

The two Rahal-Letterman M3s qualified fourth and fifth for Satuday's Petit Le Mans. The 1,000 mile race will be carried live on Speed. Rain is forecast.

The Petit Le Mans race started with everyone on rain tires in a very light rain. A dry line soon developed and everyone switched to drys. An hour and a half into the race the #90 M3 of Auberlen/Hand/Priaulx went into the paddock to replace a broken/leaking oil cooler. They returned 30 laps down to the GT class leaders - a pair of factory Corvettes. Gradually the #92 M3 of Tommy Milner/DirkMueller/Jorg Mueller worked up to first in class. With every radar screen showing a huge storm cell coming, the Ferrari 430 pitted for wet tires just prior to the #90 doing same. When the rains came with a vengence and everyone else pitted for rains, the Ferrari and BMW were 1 & 2 in class. The race was red flagged 4 1/2 hours in with standing water causing all kinds of spins. After 4 hours of waiting around, the officials decided to call the race as compete.
