    Diff Swap

I have a 2003 540i and an ///M5 diff (with drive shaft and axles). I'm trying to get these two together. So, is this too big a project to take to a DIY session? Anyone done this have any suggestions/input?

*I dont have a garage/driveway, so getting the car up is a pain.

It can be an intense project. I've found that even the simplest projects with the diff can turn into nightmares.

Doesn't the M5 use different halfshafts, bearings, etc.?

My gut is saying that this project is not DIY friendly.

Swapping a diff is easy. Swapping halfshafts is a bigger pain. Rear wheel bearings are actually really easy with the B90 tool (and if you've got the halfshafts out, it's almost criminally stupid not to do them, even if they are "fine."

If you're very efficient about the project (i.e. know exactly what to do at every step), it can be done in a few hours. Realistically, it's an all day (and possibly more) DIY for most people.
