clutch bleeding

I have to replace my slave cylinder for my clutch and I am not sure if i have to go get a bleeder or if there is a way to do it without having one. and one other question would you trust a replacement cylinder from auto zone or should i pay the extra and get it through pelican parts?

Buy your slave cylinder from Bavarian or Pelican. No Auto zone parts should go into your car. You can bleed the clutch by pumping, but it will require a helper. Takes a while but can be done. A pressure bleeder is a wise investment if you plan to bleed brakes or clutch in the future. If you have compressed air, you can get an attachment from snap on that makes the job a very easy, one man, operation.

I second Willy's recommendation for a good pressure bleeder, especially if you plan on doing your own brake work as well, it's the only way to go.

I'm not sure if you already bought a new slave cylinder. However, if you didn't, I have one with 0 miles on it that I'd be willing to sell.

well i have never tackled something like this myself and could use a hand. i just cant afford to pay some mechanic that mostly works on hondas fords chevys and pontiac's to charge me 200 for labor for something like this when he is more than likely going to screw something up because he/she doesnt know what they are dealing with at all. if anyone lives in this area and is willing to give a hand for a few bucks and or beer/liquor and or pizza shoot me a pm. i had people that could help me in CA but since i moved out here i dont really have anyone that knows squat to call upon for help.

You don't want to put in DOT 5 fluid. Go with DOT 4 or DOT 5.1. A liter of fluid should be more than enough for a flush, but you may want to pick up some extra just in case.

thanks again. someone told me dot 5 so thats what i assumed and now look like an a** thanks for catching that before i messed up.

You need dot 4 fluid. One can of ATE should get it done. if it is your first time, get two and have one as a backup.
