ALMS Race at St Pete - No Spoiler

Only 18 cars started this second event of the season. Three in P1, 3 in P2, none in GT1, and 11 in GT2 including the BMW M3s that qualified 3rd and 4th. Only eleven cars finished the race. Is ALMS doomed to failure just when BMW has re-entered the series? At least the lack of competition in the prototype classes leads to more TV time for GT2. It's good to see that the M3s can be competitive.

Hopefully they'll show replays of the ABC coverage. I missed a good half to two-thirds of the race because they had to show stupid lacrosse on the Baltimore ABC station.

There was plenty of tv time for the GT2 class for once, but I'm not too optimistic of the series' future success without larger grids.

Too bad Audi pulled out of ALMS. And Porsche. The P1 and P2 participation is pathetic. The factory Corvettes will be back for Long Beach but, unless Aston Martin shows up, there's not much excitement. Hope this series can ride out the recession. I prefer it over Grand Am.

It was exciting to see Dirk Mueller wringing out the M3, though! Nice driving and a nice finish. A few more problems to iron out, and that car should be able to bring it to the Porsche's. Beautiful car.

Looking forward to Le Mans in June...
