    Thoughts on Top Tier gasoline?

    http://toptiergas.com/

The subject Top Tier gasoline has been tossed around from time to time. I never actually knew of any discernible first hand evidence that it is any better than Joe's Outlet Gas, other than a seat of the pants indicator. It seems like a good preventative measure. Especially if the stations are convenient.

Here's an snippet from their site

    "Why TOP TIER
The intention of the TOP TIER Detergent Gasoline standards is to create a winning situation for gasoline retailers, auto manufacturers and drivers. Currently, many gasoline retailers provide fuels with lower-quality additive packages that can build up deposits on fuel injectors and on intake valves. Others can build up deposits in combustion chambers and may lead to intake valve sticking. These lower levels of additives can have negative impacts on engine performance and vehicle responsiveness."

To an extent a bottle of Techron or Lube Moly regularly, would probably do the same for deposits.

Maybe it depends on which would give a better peace of mind.

I try to stay with name brand gas either Exxon, Shell or Sunoco. Easy to do in DC area but when you head south into SC and GA things change. Unlike this area in SC and GA there seem to be more no name or off brand stations than name brand stations like Exxon, Shell and Sunoco. You would think in NASCAR country you could find a Sunoco station

In and around Berryville i take the Shell station on Rt 7 W over the off brand at the next traffic light on RT 7 E. And yeah the off brand station probably gets the same gas the Shell station does but it may not have all the additives.

Never really needed Lubro Moly, Techron or any fuel system cleaner with this strategy.
