(2009) Summit Point TSP Design Time

We will be heading to the new Summit Point TSP facility on January 10, 2009 to design a few courses that we will be using this year. As stated before, this is a completely new venue that has never been used to AutoX, so we will need to establish a few courses.

We will be meeting at FunKtion Auto at 10:00 am SHARP! and travel to Summit Point as a group. I expect that we will be down there until around 3:00 pm, but if you don't come with the group, odds are you won't be able to get in.

So, the details:

Yes, your optional direction decision gate might be possible at TSP. I'll send you the lot layout and some more specifics offline if you want to mark up a course.

Do we have to meet at Funktion to go? That would be an hour or more out of the way for me... I'm probable unless it falls on a good snowboarding day.

I want to see this facility, but from the videos I watched, I'm a little nervous with the dropoff (grass/dirt) area outside and inside the skidpads.

Send me an email and we can talk. I know.

And don't worry about the dropoffs you see in the video, it's because it's not 100% finished yet. The runoff will be flush with the skidpad surface when done.

its out of the way for me too to meet at Funktion; maybe the VA folks can meet the MD folks at a place closer to SP? Harpers Ferry maybe? then we go in as a group.

I can find a closer rally point for those coming from the opposite direction, however, we must arrive as a group.

According to Accuweather the trip from Funknation to SP on Saturday maybe one long skidpad run. Snow here and freezing rain and sleet in Berryville. Mt Weather should be fun. I was checking the weekend weather for a herding lesson. Sunday looks better right now.

Lately Accuweather's accuracy has sucked and been worse than NWS and Bobby Ryan.

Hopefully things will change.

Why? Rain will make things more fun. On the other hand, sleet or freezing rain will make getting there a little dicey.

Having been in Berryville at this time a year there can be a big difference in weather from the DC area and even Funknation and SP. I can hear SCCA cars running from where we trial in Berryville. Once you get to the top of Mt Weather heading west things can change big time from rain to sleet, freezing rain and snow as you get closer to Berryville and SP. There have been weekends during the winter where I just wanted to get back over Mt Weather and to Leesburg to beat the frozen precip after my runs were done. Even in my 4wd drive Element with snows its something I dont look forward too.

Sure hope the new complex doesnt piss off the track's neighbors any more than they already are. Neighbors hate Scott, BSR and the track especially after they started enduro racing into the night. I didnt realize how much until back last may when I was buying a leather leash from a lady at the trial who lived in Summit Point. Man did she hate BSR even worse than the neighbors who would accost me at the track when I coordinator back in mid 90's.

Wonder how longer the BSR has? If the residents ever get a chance to change their minds and vote again to allow full casino gambling at horse race track BSR's days maybe numbered.
