BMW’s X3 and X5 are Insurance Institute for Highway Safety Top Picks for 2007. That means they have electronic stability control (DSC or dynamic stability control in BMW’s case) and rankings of Good on all IIHS crash tests. The 3 Series was marked an Also Ran where “also ran” means just below the threshold of being a Top Pick, except for needed improvements in seats or head restraints.
