Despite a drive-through penalty for Robert Kubica, a late-race retirement by Nick Heidfeld, and finishes behind both Renaults, BMW-Sauber clinched second in constructors’ points in a drenched Grand Prix of Japan. The race was run in a downpour; the racers circulated behind the safety car for the first nineteen laps. Conditions had improved little when the safety car pulled in, and a host of incidents followed.
