BMW’s Spartanburg, S.C., plant may lose Z4 production to Germany in 2009 or 2010, but pick up X3 production, making the U.S. an all-wheel-drive, all-the-time factory.

BMW Manufacturing will become SAV-exclusive circa 2010 as Z4 production moves to Regensburg, Germany. In its place, BMW's Spartanburg, S.C., plant will continue to add production of the X3 in addition to the X6, which is readying for production now, and the X5, already produced in Spartanburg. BMW spokeswoman Bunny Richardson confirmed the inirital report published online by Automotive News It will heppen when both cars switch to new model designs.
