Bill Auberlen qualified the Sigalsport Dinan-BMW Riley seventh on the grid for the Grand-Am Rolex Series Daytona Prototype race at Iowa Speedway, and got the car up to fifth during his stint. But after he handed off to Matt Alhadeff, the car dropped down in the order, eventually finishing thirteenth.
The Friday night race, broadcast with a one-hour delay on the Speed Channel, was the first race at the Newton, Iowa circuit for Grand-Am. The track, a 1.3-mile roval, was fast, with the pole sitter Jon Fogarty turning a 41.709-second lap in the Pontiac Riley that he and Alex Gurney had taken to three straight wins in the series.
