BMW-Sauber had a disappointing weekend at the US Grand Prix in Indianapolis, although Sebastian Vettel, substituting for Robert Kubica, scored a point in his first Formula One race.
Kubica, recovering from the mild concussion that resulted from his spectacular crash at the Grand Prix of Canada, was not cleared by medical staff to race at Indy, so Vettel, the team’s nineteen-year old test driver, was called on to race. He qualified seventh on the grid, just two spots down from his teammate Nick Heidfeld’s fifth. Once again, Heidfeld was the best of the rest, qualifying behind the dominant McLarens of Lewis Hamilton and Fernando Alonso and the Ferraris of Felipe Massa and Kimi Raikkonen.
