Valley Forge, PA -- Want to drive away your volunteers? Seven clearly established tactics can mess up most any civic organization or club, says Tom McKee. He was one of more than a dozen speakers at BMW CCA’s 2007 Chapter Congress, held over the weekend in Valley Forge, PA, outside Philadelphia.
More than 160 club presidents, membership chairs, and treasurers, along with the club’s board of directors, came to swap ideas and hear experts talk on how to strengthen the club and its 75,000 members. Volunteerism and membership in civic organizations of all kinds has been soft in the past decade, especially in the wake of 9/11, they say. Key speakers in the joint Saturday morning session included McKee, Sue Waechter of Cornerstone Consulting on effective association volunteer management and Ron McDaniel of Buzzoodle Marketing on word of mouth campaigns.
