Car and Driver’s May 2007 story on the pending BMW M3.
March 27, 2007

The pending M3 coupe shares only headlights, taillights, doors, and trunklid in common with the 3 Series coupe from which it derives, says Car and Driver (May 2007) in its recap of the Geneva Auto Show unveiling. BMW has since revealed engine details, confirming it will be a 420-hp (European version) V8. See BMW unveils M3 V8 engine specs: 420 hp, 8,300 rpm redline.
There’s an aluminum hood, plastic fenders (just like the coupe), and carbon fiber roof to save weight. Vents adjacent to the hood bulge are functional to regulate underhood temperatures and there are bigger front bumper ducts, directing air to the radiator and brakes.
