GENEVA – BMW helped set the thematic stage for the greening of the Geneva Auto Show Monday night with a media reception that hammered home the message of efficency, BMW-style. Flanked on one side by a hanging wall of most-efficient-in-class BMW Group engines and on the other side by two new models (a 5 Series diesel wagon and restyled 1 Series), chairman Dr. Norbert Reithofer also confirmed diesels will be coming to the U.S. in 2008.
Reithofer and Dr. Klaus Draeger, member of the board of management, said the time has come to think about what steps automakers should take to improve the environment that have benefits and aren’t mere window dressing. Not their words exactly, but the sentiment was there.
