2002 targa/cabrio

the model 2002, not the year..

sooo, the other night the wife says, "it would be really neat to have an old convertible. did they make a 2002 convertible?". gasping for breath, i say, "why yes dear, and here in this picture on the internet is a beautiful inka targa in japan for $19,500." and the reply, " that would be really fun! are there any around here?"

any 2002 folks around here that might have more info on these unique cars?

There were more 1600s produced as a full drop-top (vollcabriolet) - only about 200 real 2002 came this way (built in early 1971). It's not uncommon to find the 1600s with a 2-liter engine by now!
More common was the 2002 targa, converted by Baur, and built 71-75. These, too, were few in number (~2300 total), and had the removable roof panel and soft fold-down rear window.
All of these were for built for the Euro market, not offered here.

Vintage At The Vineyards. This is becoming a highly regarded event - fun, not a Q-tip concours, but there's always a few!

A group usually gathers for the Import/Sport/Kit car weekend at Carlisle PA, although attendance seems to be diminishing. May 18-20 this year.
Import Nationals

'02 Fest East is usually the Sunday after Labor Day at Lime Rock Park CT. Again, this event seems to be in trouble (attendance-wise), and there was talk from some about trying to tie it together with the BMW Historic Races during the Labor Day weekend.

We have a non-club-affiliated Mid-Atlantik '02 group, planning drives/events in the area. Have your neighbor drop me a note and we'll get him in the e-mail loop.
