DAYTONA, FL -- Don Salama led the first lap of the first Grand-Am Koni Challenge race of the season Friday in his Grand Sport class Turner Motorsport BMW M3, but three hours later it was Bill Auberlen in another Turner M3 who made it to the podium. Coming into turn one on the second lap of the race on the 3.56-mile Daytona International Speedway road course, with two Mustang GTs on his tail, Salama missed a shift, spun, and recovered soon to begin a charge to the front of the pack. A full-course yellow just ten minutes into the race aided his recovery, and before long he was up to third, running just behind the Mustangs.
