BMW’s Spartanburg paint shop is fueled by methane gas from the Palmetto landfill. The EPA honored BMW and Dürr Systems as Energy Partner of the Year.
BMW’s Spartanburg manufacturing plant was named Energy Partner of the Year by the Environmental Protection Agency for using waste field methane gas to power its paint shop. The award went jointly to BMW Manufacturing Co. LLC, and partner Dürr Systems, Inc., which built the paint shop. They used what has been described as one of the most-ambitious-ever projects for recycling landfill methane gas, from the Palmetto Landfill to the paint shop.
