It's a race, not a concours: Sebastien Rochon won the Sunday BMW CCA sprint at Sebring in a car that ran far better than it looked. (Brian Morgan photo.)

SEBRING, Fla. -- In much of the country, January is when BMW track cars and their owners either languish in cold garages or begin to prepare for a season that is still months down the road. But in Florida, the driving season begins in January with a big bang at Sebring, where the PBOC (Porsche BMW Owners Club) and the Sunshine Bimmers Chapter of BMW CCA stage Winterfest.
Since 1994, when it began, PBOC/Sunshine Bimmers’ Pat Spikes explains, Winterfest has grown from a one-day event on Sebring’s short course to a five-day extravaganza on the full circuit. There are a six-hour enduro, a one-hour enduro, four sprint races, and several driving school and solo groups. The races attract a multi-marque field of cars, including everything from Porsches and BMWs to Legends cars and Radical sports racers.
