    E46 M3 free camber- only on Autox days, or always?

    I've found several great procedures for adjusting the strut position to add camber to the front wheels, but I can't seem to find out how this impacts tire life or the seat of the pants feeling during regular driving. Any thoughts?

    The car is only driven for fun- autocrossing and stress relief from work, etc., but my wife also drives it and if it's too twitchy she may complain.

    I made this modification to my e46 330i about 15,000 miles ago.

    Yes, you wear out your front tires a little faster on the inside edges, but it will also help to reduce sidewall "rollover" in spirited driving. If the car is your daily driver than the increased negative camber will shorten tire life by probably a couple of thousand miles.

    I don't think that it made the car any more twitchy than stock, but it did seem to reduce understeer slightly.

    Because of the suspension geometry, the increased camber will also effect the toe setting. If you do make this mod, make sure to have the front toe angle checked and adjusted.

    I'd be surprised if you notice any real difference at all....you're only talking about ~.5 degree of change.

    Don't get me wrong, I'd still do it, but don't be alarmed when you can't tell the difference.

    Any difference you do notice will probably be more attributable to the accompanying change in toe (towards toe-out) that occurs as a result of adding negative camber.
