Question E36 Brake warning on instrument panel

    Hello

I have a 99 E36 323i sedan, 72K miles my brake warning indicator is on
I checked brake fluid level, changed front pads, checked rear pads (75% left) but my warning is still on, what else triggers this warning to come on, do I need a reset tool to clear it?

I have also read I need to change my brake pad sensor for a new one every time I replace pads is this true ?

If I need a reset tool will I be able to use it on my 95 E34 525i also?

    Thanks

    Xavier

Yes. Once the light comes on, the only way to reset it is to replace the sensor that got cut to set the light. They are disposable, and once they've been activated, the sensors are trash. Since you only needed to replace the front pads, it should be the sensor on the front left wheel.

Kevin's right about the sensor. No reset tool is needed, but the light won't go out immediately - it will take a few on-off cycles to clear.

Well, it seems to appropriate to talk about "real M3s" after that comment!
