Pagid Yellows or Hawk Blues ?

I'm prepping the E30 for another year of Drivers' Schools and my inaugural season of SpecE30... and I've hit a fork in the road, so to speak.

I was all prepared to purchase a set of Hawk Blue brake pads, when, on Friday, while on the phone with a parts shop out in California (buying Accusump parts), the owner suggested that I look at Pagid's RS-19 Yellow ceramic pads.

I know a bit about the Hawk pads, but very little about the Pagids -- does anyone here have any experience with/opinions of them?

Well, Marshall, since I've already got a set of rear C1144s and a couple of the other SpecE30 guys are happily running HT10... I think that's what I'll try at first. (We're only allowed the stock brake system, though brake lines are free.)

If I'm unhappy with the Hawk/Mintex combo, I'll give an XP9/XP8 combo a test.

Last night I read an article in the new Bimmer mag about Will Turner's E46 M3 that he prepped for the SCCA's T2 class which requires stock rotors. He settled on the Pagid Yellows because they didn't overwhelm the ABS. And he's a Hawk vendor, no?

that combo worked great for me on my scca its prepped e30 325is. over 3 years i had tried various combo's of hawk blue, porterfield and street pads to try to get the front/rear balance right (i could have put in a pressure limit valve, but didn't want to bother with the plumbing). one difference with spec e30 maybe is that i had removed the abs system, you guys run with abs right? sounds like other spece30 folks are liking the ht10's too.

i currently run ht10's all around on my scca its e36 with a pressure limit valve on the front and no abs system. differnent cars, different brake balance "issues"...

Carbotech makes the best brakes. Call larry and tell him what you use the car for...i have xp8 in the front and panther in the rear on my e30....My car is a daily weekend driver but i bet i brake better then you big rotor upgrade people. cold preformance is not bad but just get any heat in them and you will be good. any questions let me know.

If you get a test drive in a car with them better wear your seat belt and make sure it is tight.

big rotor upgrades? bah! i believe everyone in this thread is running stock rotors and calipers in their race cars...

Spec e30 are limited to the standard 10.2 rotor correct? If not it would be an easy upgrade to vw corrado 11.0 rotors. And have them still fit under 15"s but are 15"s allowed in spec?

9.3.9.3. Wheels shall be 14 by 6 inches or 15 by 7 inches, shall weigh a minimum of thirteen (13) pounds, any brand, unless specified in these regulations.

9.3.10. Brakes
9.3.10.1. The make and material of brake pads may be replaced, unless specified in these regulations.
9.3.10.2. Brake rotors may be replaced provided they are match OEM specifications for the E30 application.
9.3.10.2.1. Vented front rotors are permitted.
9.3.10.3. Cross drilling, grooving, and slotting of rotors is permitted.
9.3.10.4. Rotors may be cryogenically treated.
9.3.10.5. Removal of dust shields (backing plates) is permitted.
9.3.10.6. Brake fluid is free.
9.3.10.7. Flexible rubber brake lines may be replaced with Teflon lined, metal braided hoses.
9.3.10.8. Metal brake lines may be substituted.
9.3.10.9. Parking brake and associated mechanisms, including the parking brake console, may be removed.

9.3.13.7. Ducting to the brakes is permitted, and two openings in the front valance to allow the passage of up to a three (3) inch diameter duct leading to each front brake are permitted for this purpose.

Can't even use the stock 325iS 14x6.5" BBS basketweaves, nor can I use solid brake bushings.

I tried XP11s.. but I think they just might have a tad too much brake torque for the car...
