Question E30 Mystery Part - Help

I found a mystery connector/loop and I have no idea where it's from or what it does... It's a plastic friction connector with a pair of spade terminals and a single green/red wire looped between them.

I had the fabricator finish the cage install over Thanksgiving, so the dash and instrument panel were out for a while. After getting the car back, last friday, I cleaned up the wiring behind the dash -- disconnecting the sunroof wiring harness, the original radio harness and relocated the check panel wiring to the sunglasses holder.

Then, on Sunday, when I got into the car to drive from NC back to DC, I found this connector in the drivers' footwell. Everything seems to work fine, the car ran, the radio works and the instrument panel lights up. I really don't want to wrestle with the dash again, so can anyone tell me what this is and if it's important?

The car is an 03/87 production 1987 325iS.

    Thanks.

UPDATE: E30tech & R3vlimited users seem to believe that it's a bridging loop for the clutch switch in the Automatic cars... but my coupe was built as a 5 speed....?

    Any thoughts?

Dan that is a jumper for automatic cars that don't have a clutch switch to disconnect cruise control when depressed. They usually tape it up on the harness. The tape must have came loose. No worries mate! )
