Vehicle Distribution Center Sept 18, 2004

We are planning a trip to the Vehicle Distribution Center on September 18.
The plan is to rent buses in Maryland since parking is limited at the center.
We will probably also have lunch on site.
Not sure of the cost yet, probably somewhere between $25 and $35 to go towards the bus rental and food. Between tolls and gas it will probably be cheaper to take a bus anyway. We will be back

The down side is we need to head out 7:00 AM to get there on time.
The tour should start at 11:00. We will be back around 6:00 PM.

A big bus!
Actually 3 or 4 buses depending on the size of the group. The VPC can handle 200 people.

Where is the vehicle distributuon center located? If it's in NJ, I would be interested, but to lure my wife along, we probably need to go visit a friend of hers that lives in nearby. Any problem with folks being separate and joining up at the site?

The VDC is in Port Newark. The reason for the buses is that space is limited and we want everyone to arrive at closely the same time. If some people want to drive because they want to stay behind I'm sure that will be OK. We are probably going to want to keep it to a minimum. Between the cost of gas and tolls and the fact that it is going to be early in the morning, buses make sense.

BMW NA Vehicle Processing Center

Time: 6:30 A.M.

National Capital Chapter will be hosting a tour to the BMW NA Vehicle Processing Center at the Auto Marine Terminal, Jersey City, NJ, on Saturday, September 18. The left coast chapters have toured the Oxnard facility in California, but we will be the first to tour our East Coast facility. Several club members have had a preliminary tour a few weeks ago and were very impressed with the operation. Two to three thousand BMWs roll off the boat and are processed in only a few days. From clean up, to body work, to software upgrades, this facility does it all, and very efficiently. Rolls Royce and the MINI are also prepped for delivery at this location.

We will meet at 6:30 a.m. on Saturday morning (the 18th) at the Park & Ride on Rt. 32 & Broken Land Parkway, one mile from I-95. The buses will leave promptly at 6:45 a.m. and arrive at the Center at 10:00 a.m.

Tours will be from 10:00 to 12:00, with a German lunch being served from 12:00 to 1:30. BMW NA will provide knowledgeable speakers to address a variety of current topics. 1:30 to 2:30 are additional tours or Q&A sessions with BMW NA. 2:30 p.m. we will leave the VPC and arrive between 5:30-6:00 back at the parking lot.

If you are going I need your check for $40 no later than August 14. After that we will make the trip available to other other chapters.
