Looks like it would be a lot of fun.

However, it's currently mid November. I could always bring my Subaru, but you're going to need snow tires and/or chains.

Also, I looked at the Cass Railroad website and their schedule only goes to October, I couldn't see if they run through the Winter.

It snowed this October in the Snowshoe area. Not sure how much they got. But further east the Blue Ridge Parkway was closed. Great roads out that way. The scenery and the foliage on I 64 this past weekend was great on the way to Kentucky to pick up the newest addition to the family. Had a rental SUV for the room.

If I get a chance I will post pixs of Kate and her older brother Duncan.

You could make it a long weekend and do the Greenbriar, Snowshoe and The Homestead. Snowshoe should still be open for MTBs. Downhill races to see who is craziest in the chapter.

I'm still thinking about this for a Fall tour.

Columbus Day weekend is Oct 6, 7 and 8 in 2007. You could do Cass Railroad. The Homestead and Greenbrier aren't that far away I believe
if you want to spend a little or lot more for accomdations. Club maybe able to get a deal at either establishment.

Downhill MTB races instead of karts at Snowshoe?? Snowshoe rents bikes.

Later in the Fall and you might get snow or a lot of snow.

Another option would be to revisit the same area as the Summer tour with a maybe a different route the last weekend in September and end up in Gettysburg for the US Sheepdog Finals. A chance to see the top border collies in the country and their handlers compete for the US championship. A herding trial beats trains anyday. Although its close for me since my grandfather was an engineer on the old Reading Railroad.

Just a suggestion since the Sheedog Finals are usually not this close.
