Didn't know if there was a "right place" for this or not, but I'll just take a stab in the dark with the DIY folks. Most likely you are the people modifying your cars while the Man is looking the other way, then trying to have them inspected and hoping they pass.

I've got two cars (see sig)... one is a slightly lowered E30 (hence coming to this forum) which I suspect will be easy to pass. The other is a heavily modded turbo Miata. It's OBDII so I've gotta have my codes read through the communication port, but will they want to do a sniffer test? The inspector guy on the phone wasn't very clear on it. He said, "depends on what we get out of the OBD connector" which is slightly helpful.

If any of you have any experience trying to pass things through, I'd love to hear some advice or tales. I look at it this way: it can't be any harder than trying to get a DIY turbo to pass in California.
