    Maryland Monument Meander (Tour)

    June 16, 2018

    9 am

We will meet at the Maple Lawn Cars and Coffee (8180 Maple Lawn, Fulton MD 20759), which begins at 9am. You need to be there no later than 9:30am to sign the waiver and for the mandatory drivers' meeting. Come with a full tank of gas and an empty bladder. There's a Highs less than a mile west of the start on MD-216 and there is a Starbucks at the Harris Teeter if you don't like Ethiopian coffee at Sidamo. The roads were LOVELY (only a few places with bottlenecks of any kind) when I drove it on 29 April. We'll stop for lunch around noon at Bassetts in Poolesville. Most roads are rural country roads with a couple higher-speed highways thrown in. Leisurely tour (avg of about 40 mph) of some Maryland roads leading up to the Washington Monument State Park after our lunch stop - if the weather is nice, we'll hike up to the monument at the park for a fantastic panorama view. We'll make a final stop at South Mountain Creamery. If you have 2-way radios - bring them - we'll be on 13.1

Arrive by 9 am (or a few minutes earlier), 9:20 mandatory drivers' meeting, 9:30 depart.

We will meet at the Maple Lawn Cars and Coffee (8180 Maple Lawn, Fulton MD 20759), which begins at 9am. Sometimes the crowd arrives late, after first having been to Hunt Valley Cars and Coffee, but it will still be a convenient start point.

Arrive a bit earlier than 9am (I will be there no later than 8:45 am) if you will not have printed out the route instructions and signed the "tour script" (sent to those of you who have registered on MSR as of the evening of June 13). I will have extra route instructions and tour scripts but it would REALLY HELP if you printed them ahead of time (and signed/printed names of all ADULTS in your vehicle on the "tour script") and then all you need to do to sign in is sign the waiver form upon arrival (all persons in your party; if there are minors, an adult can sign for them on the waiver form)

Come with a full tank of gas and an empty bladder. There's a Highs less than a mile west of the start on MD-216 and there is a Starbucks at the Harris Teeter if you don't like Ethiopian coffee at Sidamo. Heck there's even a McDonalds next door.

The route: the roads were LOVELY (only a few places with bottlenecks of any kind) when I drove them at the end of April, and again last weekend after having to make some route adjustments due to May's weather-related closures. We'll stop for lunch around noon at Bassetts in Poolesville. Most roads are rural country roads with a couple higher-speed highways thrown in. Leisurely tour (avg of about 40 mph) of some Maryland roads leading up to the Washington Monument State Park after our lunch stop. It is a 5 min hike (wide, easy grade) to the monument and the view is amazing. This is the original Washington Monument! We'll make a final stop at South Mountain Creamery. If you have FRS radios (2-way radios, aka walkie-talkies) - bring them - we'll be on 13.1

Use the link in the initial post by the webmaster to register! As always, just saying "Going" here on the FB event page does not cut it. You need to register using motorsportreg.com by the end of the day on the 15th.
