I found a '91 318iS at Millersville Auto Exchange, 100k miles, "1-owner", AC "works", $4,500 list.

-Anyone know this dealer's reputation?
-Is there a good place in or near Millersville (zip 21108) to get a pre-purchase inspection or at least a 2nd MD inspection?
- What is a good price if really in good condition (e.g., 9/10 interior, 7/10 exterior, 9/10 mechanicals)? kmm.com is $3,800.

Appreciate any advice.

Find out what the wholesale auction value of car is. Make an offer of $500 or so above that. 318is used to have problems with a gasket ie profile gasket? Does it have all the vin tags on the fenders, hood, trunk lid etc? How does the AC work?
New compressor to convert runs about $1500 installed.Other problem areas maybe clutch or the auto trannie.

Do the body panels line up, are the gaps consistent and does your hand run smmothly from the front fender to the hood and from the front fender to the door etc?

At 100K the profile gasket issue would have been resolved.

I went there last year looking at an E30. The place is crap, as well as the cars they sold.

Just a tip: you can always call BMW of North America, customer service 800 number, give them the VIN, tell them you are interested in purchasing the vehicle, and they will (free of charge) update you on the original purchase location, price, and all recall info, both satisfied and open issues. I found this to be a valuable source of accurate information. I also was told how many owners were previoiusly registered through warranty work and such my car had (1)! Good luck!
