New Member from Mclean (850i, M5)

Christmas came early for me as I just purchased (sight unseen!) a 92 850i auto with 69k miles, burgundy with tan interior. Always loved this car. I'm having it shipped from Missouri so fingers crossed! I also just traded up from a 550xi to a 2015 M5. Beast mode!

I'm looking forward to meeting up and hope to absorb as much info from many of you who seem to have a wealth of knowledge. My depth of knowledge is limited....to say the least.

My first question, if anyone can help is....can anyone recommend a good mechanic who works on 8 series specifically?

Welcome! While I don't know of any E31 or V12 specialists, check with the chapter sponsors closest to you, if you don't plan to use the dealerships:

Welcome to the club! I have a 92 850 as well, a 6 speed. I'm not aware of anyone in the area who works specifically on the 8 series. He or she would probably wouldn't make much since there just aren't that many around. The suggestions made by John in VA are good ones. I would also recommend BMW Excluservice in Rockville or Benchmark Motors in Columbia, MD depending upon your tolerance for travel.

Thanks fellas. The 850 came in and was pleasantly surprised. Runs pretty well, suspension seems fairly tight-- no wobble or shimmy, motor is strong with not no unusual noises. It does have hesitation, especially when cold but think that changing some of the ignition parts will help. Everything on the car works, with the exception of a couple of this and that. Paint is not too good unfortunately. Will be looking into a wet sanding to see if that helps otherwise will be looking at a respray.
I have a mobile mechanic (Gus...found him on craigslist) coming to help out with some of the basics and will take the opportunity to work with him and learn as I am....well, mechanically challenged to say the least.

Coupenut, any ideas on how I could locate the original phone? Been casually looking on eBay but no luck. Of all the improvements I want to make...for me this is one of the most important. Thanks.
