    96 dB limit

    According to the RIPKEN pages,

    http://www.nccbmwcca.org/index.php?autocross
Cars exceeding 96 decibels will not be allowed to participate.
How is that measured? What distance?

We will place a db meter a minimum of 50 ft from the farthest point of the course (towards the residential area) and measure the cars while they run under load. If the car exceeds 96 db we will ask that the car not run.

We are required to maintain this limit as part of our agreement with Ripken Stadium.

Presumably this will be done perpendicular to the car, as is traditional, rather than, say, pointing up the exhaust?

any idea which side of the car you will take the measurement on? I'm guessing driver side, but just checking. I can rotate my dumps if need be kinna far of a drive to be asked to leave over a few dB

Agreed, but keep in mind that this is a requirement in our contract with Ripkin Stadium and is due to the proximity of a residential neighborhood.

So, just rotate the dumps away from the neighborhood. See, easy solution.

Is this the reason why several police cruisers showed up and walked around inspecting almost every inch of the place during the Philly SCCA autoX a month or so ago?

Side will depend on course direction, and since autoX courses twist and turn, it may well be up the tailpipe at some point.

96db? darn, now i can't bring my 102db scca its car in to kill cones!

(actually, it provides a feeble excuse for a road racer to not get trounced by auto-x'ers!)

I don't want to do anything that would risk the lot, its just that I've never been there so I'm not sure which way to turn the dumps
