Thanksgiving is approaching, so that means it's time to stock up on pies!
Join us on Saturday, November 22nd for a pre-Thanksgiving Pie Run. We'll meet at Catoctin Mountain Orchard in Thurmont, Md. From there, we will stop for lunch at a to-be-determined spot, then head up to Carlisle Fairgrounds, where Lance Miller, one of the owners, will give us a private tour of his car collection. Registration opens soon, so be on the lookout.

GREAT PIE RUN - PRE-THANKSGIVING

It's almost Thanksgiving, and what goes best with turkey? Pies!!! We will meet early at Catoctin Mountain Orchard in Thurmont, MD, take some great back roads and head north to The Boiling Springs Tavern in Boiling Springs, PA for lunch. After lunch, we will drive approximately 7 miles to Carlisle, PA for a private tour of Lance Miller's car collection!
Lance Miller's father, one of the orginal partners of Carlisle Events, passed away in 2004 of a disease called Amyloidosis. Lance has set up the Chip Miller Foundation to bring awareness and raise money to cure this disease. To thank Lance for taking time out of his busy schedule to give us a tour, our Club will make a donation to the Foundation. The donations will come from the members that sign up for this tour. Donations are not required, but are strongly preferred considering it's the holiday season and a great cause. Details are on the registration page.
It’s also recommended to bring a cooler to keep your pies/food from sliding around in the trunk, especially since we have some fun driving to do!

Catoctin Mountain Orchard, Thurmont, MD
We have been here so many times do we really need to repeat ourselves? Many of us have been known to leave CMO w/ 12+ pies. CMO is a mom & pop operation specializing in homemade fruit pies, either baked or frozen. They also have other baked goods, fresh fruits, preserves, jams, jellies, dressings and cider and BLAH, BLAH, BLAH. YOU MUST TRY THE APPLE CIDER!!!
Note: I highly recommend ordering your pies ahead of time since we are a large group. CMO recommends pre-orders be done PRIOR to November 20th. The pies can be ordered freshly baked or frozen. When you place your order, reference the "BMW group". The pies range in price from $8.95-$12.95. Check their site for the different types of pie.
IMPORTANT: The deadline for calling or emailing orders for pies is Thursday, November 20th.

Boilings Springs Tavern in Boiling Springs, PA
The picturesque town of Boiling Springs was founded in the early 1750s and received its name from the artesian springs that seem to “boil” from deep underground. These springs are the largest in Pennsylvania and the third largest in the United States, producing 23 million gallons of water daily. The nearby stream, the Yellow Breeches, is a favored destination for local fishermen. The Tavern was built in 1832 as the Boiling Springs Hotel, providing people with a meal and lodging for the night. In the mid-1800s, it became part of the Kauffman Depot on the Underground Railroad. Men, women and children escaping slavery crossed the Mason-Dixon Line into Chambersburg and then trailed the South Mountain towards Boiling Springs. The Tavern offered these runaways shelter and protection before they headed to Carlisle.
It since has been added onto several times. A larger kitchen was built in 1863, and the dining room was expanded in the early 1950s. The last installment was the dining room overlooking the spring, which was completed in the mid-1970s. Today, wooden chairs and tables crowd the floor with striking pictures of historical buildings, and a deer’s head rests on the mantel. Quaint artifacts are scattered throughout the restaurant, reminding guests of the Tavern’s long history. It is a restaurant and bar serving the discriminating tastes of Central Pennsylvanians.

Lance Miller's Car Collection in Carlisle, PA

"Lance is the son of Chip Miller, co-founder of Carlisle Events, who in the early ‘70s formed Carlisle Events with his good friend Bill Miller, Jr. (no relation). Over the course of thirty-six years, Carlisle Events has grown from two car events to currently hosting 10 car events a season, including the world’s largest Corvette Show, Corvettes at Carlisle and the new Carlisle Car Auctions. Corvettes at Carlisle attracts over 50,000 visitors during a three-day period with over 2,700 registered Fun Field participants. Lance began running the Corvette show after the passing of his father Chip from a rare disease called Amyloidosis. Lance was born in York, Pennsylvania in 1972. He literally grew up at the Carlisle PA Fairgrounds. To quote him, “I’ve done everything from cutting grass to garbage patrol to event management. There really is nothing in this business that I haven’t done.” Lance was raised in an automotive environment from the time he was born. In Lance’s case, Corvettes were always in the fore front, as his father, Chip, was and still is recognized as one of the foremost experts and leaders in the Corvette hobby".
Lance has maintained quite a collection of cars, mainly Corvettes, and he will provide us with a private tour of his collection!

We will meet at CMO at 9am and we have some great backroads planned up to Carlisle. Looks to be great driving weather, especially for those with turbos! Also, we're in for a great show as we tour Lance Miller's private car collection, so you really don't want to miss that.
