Well, you are definately rigth, I don't think there is any replacement for actual seat time on the track...but I guess i was looking for more along the lines of what Pinecone suggested, that at least...

wheels are 17x7.5" wheels up front and 8.5" in back. Can I go to 17" x 8.0" all around? Will I have problems with rubbing, tires, etc?
