New Jersey Motorsports Park's 2012 season schedule taking shape with the return of GRAND-AM Road Racing, AMA Pro Road Racing, Rally America and other major motorsports series

GRAND-AM race date moves to the spring; AMA Pro returns one week after Labor Day weekend

MILLVILLE, N.J. - New Jersey Motorsports Park's 2012 schedule is highlighted by the return of two major spectator events that have become staples on NJMP's annual calendar. GRAND-AM Road Racing, featuring the Rolex Sports Car Series and the Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge, will return to NJMP May 11-13, 2012, while AMA Pro Road Racing, including the SuperBike, SportBike, SuperSport and XR1200 classes, will visit NJMP on Sept. 7-9, 2012.

"There's a lot for race fans to be excited about heading into the 2012 season," said Brad Scott, general manager of New Jersey Motorsports Park. "Next season will mark the fifth anniversary of GRAND-AM Road Racing at NJMP, and we hope the new mid-May race date will give us a great weather forecast.

"We're equally as proud to welcome back AMA Pro for a fourth consecutive season following what proved to be a memorable race weekend this season. The move to the weekend following Labor Day should allow race fans the choice to celebrate the holiday at the Jersey Shore and then come see us the following weekend."

Rally America Rallycross is anticipated to return to NJMP in 2012 with two race dates that are to be confirmed. The series first visited New Jersey in 2010. Likewise, NJMP remains in negotiations with the ARCA Racing Series about hosting a 2012 race weekend.

Two highly popular, yet very quirky series featuring $500 race cars, costumes and outrageous rules will come to NJMP in 2012 with the return of the 24 Hours of LeMons on April 14-15 and the ChumpCar World Series inaugural visit on June 2-3.

The Sports Car Club of America (SCCA) will again race into the night in 2012 with the return of "The Devil in the Dark" 12-hour endurance race on April 28. The SCCA, including both national and regional events, will also race at NJMP on June 1-3, June 29-July 1 and Oct. 20-21. The North American Road Racing Association (NARRA), a combination performance driving school and racing league, first visited NJMP in 2011 and has scheduled event dates at NJMP on June 8-10. In addition, race cars of yesteryear will be celebrated during the Vintage Racers Group (VRG) track days on Sept. 22-23.

The Championship Cup Series (CCS) NJMP SportBike Championship will compete in a four round championship in 2012. Race dates are tentative, and will include a mix of races on both Thunderbolt Raceway and Lightning Raceway.

Confirmed competition karting events include the Northeast Rotax Championship May 18-20 and Oct. 20-22, and the New Jersey Sprint Series June 2-4 and Aug. 25-27.

Information about tickets, season passes, support races and race weekend schedules will be announced at a later date. The full schedule including track days and non-motorsports special events and activities planned for 2012 will be posted on www.NJMP.com in the near future.

I am thinking of co-driving a car in Devil in the Dark in April. Assuming all of the details get worked out in advance.
