View Full Version : June 16 & 17 @ VIR (NCC + Audi + MB) Info?

I was just wondering if there was any additional information on the joint Drivers' School at VIR in the middle of June...

Course?
Cost?
Registration info/dates?

Since the Summit Point Main Circuit school conflicts with two friends' wedding, the VIR event is probably the first chance I'll get to drive a track other than the Jeff with a BMWCCA school...

Thanks.

The Audi Chapter's calendar says the application will be available in Mid-March.

Ah, okay -- I didn't know where to start looking, or which was the lead club on this...

The phone number for the Sleep Inn is 434-793-6090. There is a brand new Best Western about 1/2 mile west of the Sleep Inn. It has an indoor pool and workout room, but I don't know if it has Speed Channel like the Sleep Inn.
I don't know the phone number.

As Steven said, registration should open by next week, cost is $315 (as long as you get the registration in "on time" - otherwise there will be a late fee). We'll be using the Full Course (3.2 miles - lots of fun).

At first, I was a little confused there between the "Full Course (http://www.virclub.com/track_info/images/track_map.jpg)" and the "Grand East (http://www.mazdadrivers.com/09_trackmaps/vir_mda_grand_east.jpg)" (until I saw the mileage difference) -- the prospect of tackling the "Bitch" turn my first time out at VIR didn't seem all that appealing. :icon_omfg

All in all, it looks like a good time (followed, of course, by a 'cool-off lap' by way of I-40 to Oak Island for a week.) :D

PS: how many slots are there, total? (I.E., how hard is it going to be to get in for someone who's never ventured from the Jeff?) :icon_blin

VIR is a great track. Lots of runoff and nice facilities.
Bitch isn't as bad as it seems although we won'tbe using it.
Run groups can easily accommodate 40 cars. There are 3 passing zones, sometimes 4 depending on the school. We will probably use the normal 3.

I take it that details aren't yet available in a finalized fashion, since there still isn't anything on the Audi or MBC sites, either?

Thanks.

(While I'd love to stick around for the Mazda school - I've got a beach house waitin' for me in Long Beach, NC, starting on the 18th. I'm also going to miss out on the SPMC NCC school - a couple of close friends are getting married in Chapel Hill on the 25th.)

Sorry -- my parents live between Durham and Roxborro -- about 40 mins away.

Lord knows, I spend enough on the 6er -- I need to find some way to save cash. :D

But at least you can convince your wife to come...got any pointers?

My strategy is as follows: 1) Take separate cars so she is not stranded while you are at the track. 2) Find a nice bed and breakfast, Inn, or hotel to stay at. 3) Take her out for a nice dinner somewhere and make the time you spend with her "romantic".

This makes the whole trip into a nice weekend getaway for the both of you. It works every time. It may be more expensive than staying at the Motel 6 and going out for Pizza, but as they say "you have to pay to play".

Even more romantic is bringing a pizza and six-pack back to the room at the Sleep Inn and watch Speed Channel.

That is great if you can get away with it, but I am not sure that would work with my wife ;)

speaking of pizza, the pizza at the little place called Aunt Millies in Milton is really good. Give it a try, if you haven't yet.

If I"m interpreting correctly, this event is being run on BMWNCC's insurance. I notice that convertibles ARE being allowed with a hardtop and rollbar for this event. How come the exception this time? Is this a sign of things to come?

Is this a sign of things to come?It is not a sign of things to come. Not allowing convertibles is a decision made by the driving school steering committee. I agree with them but it is not my decision. This event is a little different because it is a joint event. Audi and M-B allow convertibles.

I understand that the confirmation for this school is not until other schools are complete, but is there anyway to know what the possibility is of being accepted? The listing says 35 drivers from each club, and a posting dated April 13th notes that 39 applications had already been received. Does this mean that my registration mailed around April 20th was too late? I’m just trying to schedule other events which fall right around the time of this one - but had this as a high priority as I already missed the Tar Heal event there in March :(.

We need to fill the school. Entries will depend on the number of instructors we have. I think we are iin good shape. Anyone who has sent in their money should be in.

What's the scoop on registration packets?

We're a little less than a month out and I've yet to see anything in the mail... or my inbox. (Late May, early June is super busy for me, so the sooner I can figure out when to get the 3 teched, the better.)

Dan,

Take a look in your inbox. There should be a message from me with the Student Information Package.

The Student Package is also now available on the NCC webpage in the VIR event registration area.

Now, go get your car inspected and get ready to have fun!

Good, I'm glad that the email actually worked. I was worried that my email provider would think I was trying to send out "inappropriate" emails.

Now, let's see how many bounced email I get back.

I'll tech my car when I get back from Mid-Ohio. I'll need to flush my brake fluid then.

Any chance we'll get to play on the skidpad? Just wondering...It's not much of a skid pad. Miriam will be there this week to take a look at it. The last time anyone I know who used it they found it not very good. It really needs to be painted and polished.

Last time I was there, I tried it (admittedly with no rear sway), and I couldn't get the tail out. :eeps: The "skidpad" was grippier than the track.

A couple years ago I spoke to someone at VIR about the skidpad. They know it needs to be improved but low on their priority list. At the time the lodge was high on the list. Maybe the skidpad is working its way up.
