While tending the registration booth yesterday, me and other helpers encountered some really sad excuses/reasons and malarkey that people gave us in order to get in at reduced or free entry into the event. Here are my favs (paraphrased for clarity):

I was chapter president X number of years ago.
I spoke to <insert board member name> yesterday and he said I could bring myself and these 4 other people in my car and get in for free.
Do you take debit?
Can you break a $100? (this happened twice)
I work here at the stadium, I need to get to my office. (this happened twice)
I'm just here to pickup my wife.
I'm just here to pickup my dad.
What's here to do for $10 bucks? This is robbery.
Do you take credit?
I just came to watch not participate.

I had no idea that registration was going to be this exciting. Can't wait until next year....

Anyone else encounter any creative excuses to get in??

LOL, thats pretty funny...you're hired for next year too!!

BTW - thanks to EVERYONE who volunteered their time to work the front gate. I know at times it seemed like the line will never end, but you all handled it very efficiently.

*note to self: come up with better excuse next year*

10 bucks for the whole car, right?
I'm dropping off the mascot costume at the stadium.
UPS lady wondering where verizon fios needed to be installed....wtf?

There were others like "I registered over the forum then sent in the check 1-2 days ago" which can go either way...but man I swear like 5 caravans all hit at once around 9:30.

Ha! One guy thought it was a free event and thought we would just let him pass. I told him that there was mall across the street from the light. He actually complied without giving us crap and he returned with the money.

If I didn't do AutoX I would have to agree with number 8.

Didn't you get lunch and see the car show?
easily worth $10.

And if youy registered online it was only 5 bucks and you got a T shirt to go with that great lunch.

Joe

Exactly. The t-shirt alone cost more than $5. :)

And food, drinks, lot rental, insurance is NOT cheap. $5 or $10 for this event is just a stupid price.

And we basically gave AutoX away at $25 for AutoX, T-Shirt and Food.

Yeah I don't understand how anyone could complain about the price of this event. $25 for autox, t-shirt, food, check out the show and just hang out and have a good time is most def. worth every bit. I had a blast and I'm glad I was able to make it out.

I don't think any autocrossers are complaining. $10 to mill around and have lunch would have been fine with me, but I can see it sounding a little steep to others. The non-advanced purchasers were subsidizing us, it seems.

True it was a little more favored for the autoxers but even just spectators, $10 for a t-shirt, food and drinks is plenty worth it. Cost like $6 to get something at the chick-fil-a down the street and they don't give you a t-shirt lol.

Go to Red Hot and Blue and try to get BUFFET FOOD/DRINK & a SHIRT for $10. SERIOUSLY, everyone who complained should just go to a soup kitchen or something

I can not agree more.

Heck, I would have paid $5 just to be able to see that many fine Bimmers in one place. Seems a few others felt that way as well. There appeared to be a lot of people just walking around and checking out all the cars in the parking/pits area.

The food was fantastic. Sodas at any other event would cost you at least $1, and you couldn't touch that lunch for $5.

The shirts are FANTASTIC. Love mine and even bought another one for my Brother-In-Law who could not attend.

Watching the autoX was great. The wife and I are already thinking of getting her Miata set up for autoX for the future.

All in all, it was a great event. I would have never thought the wife and boy would be interested in spending 3 hours at such an event, but they loved it. Only downside was the rain, but that made the autoX even more interesting for awhile.

The #8 complaint came from the guy driving the Porsche Cayenne (GTS model as I was told). You mean you can drive a spiffy car like that and are struggling to cough up a measly $10 bucks? Get outta here!

If I recall correctly, his friend in the passenger seat coughed up the (2) $5 bills for him after he gave us a hard time. I just couldn't believe it.
But, in the end, he REALLY wanted to get in.

Oh, so you're "The Bogdan" that someone mentioned. Man! there was A LOT of name-dropping yesterday. Actually, 2 separate cars name-dropped "The Bogdan" on us. I believe one guy was about to call you on his cell phone, but he changed his mind at the last minute when we called his bluff. I think it was your name, but I'm only 50% sure. It could have been <insert board member name> instead. Anyways, it was a hilarious 1-hour stint up there at the entry gate. I felt like the club bouncer up there.

I wish I had gotten there earlier. I showed up at the start of the second heat. I helped Linh(?) with timing, and by the time that was done I had to drive and the show cars were all leaving. I pretty much completely missed that part :frown: At least I got to see some pics.

What the heck needs to be "set up" on a Miata to autox? Just put on a helmet :)

I offered to take a couple of kids for a ride. The first seemed interested, but his dad was hesitant. Maybe it seemed creepy or something. It just seemed like the spectating kids (or adults) might enjoy it from inside a car. I ended up taking Sam and another guy whose name I can't recall. Next year we could maybe use a more organized way to offer rides. Bogdan made a PA announcement for his taxi, but I would have taken anyone on any of my runs. My car's not as cool as his, but it was faster yesterday

Haha, I didn't hear that while working at the other end of the track, but it reminds me of the 'Ring taxi driven by Sabine Schmitz. A couple of runs looked like he was trying to see how many people he could stuff in the backseat!

Thanks for lending Linh a helping hand.

My tires were already bald on the outside when I got there in the morning, I think I might be close to showing cord at this point. :(

Adam was faster than me yesterday. Bastard.

At least it was fun getting one of the girls to scream on one of the rides.

p.s. The car can fit 3 people in the back. :p

One benefit (downside?) of having half your HP is I can't have as much fun abusing the tires. Mine seem to be lasting forever. A test & tune may take care of them, though.

Hey, I can fit 3 in the back too, if they're 4 feet tall and lay down stacked 3 high. Or skinny with no legs.

I would have sworn I heard a couple "dude screams" out of the back of your car as well.

Your big drifto with 5 on-board was among the spectator highlights yesterday, along with the drift exhibition put on by the silver E30 driver in the wet. I want his car control skills.

I killed a set of tires at last years Rosecroft test and tune when I had the Miata... I actually had to rotate them half-way through the day. :D

There might have been some dude screams, lol.

The only bad part about having so much power is that it's hard to make full use of it in an autox situation. On the positive side... understeer is easily remedied by prodigious ammounts of power.

If the E30 was an M3 and had a black front bumper, he has an S52 swap... and does drift events often. So yeah, he is very in tune with power/weight and car control for entartainment. :)

We'll be sure to charge fast civics double next time...

I agree. Anyone complaining about the price needs to attend an SCCA event! Perhaps we should advertise it as a $1,525,214.32 value for $25! Inflate the value pricing a bit and we can easily get there!

Autocross value*: $525,248.32
Limited edition T-shirt*: $275,235.28
Fully Catered Lunch with unlimited drinks*:$151,235.45
Admission to car show*:251,234.76
Venue access*:$145,325.68
Swap Meet Access*:$43,525.67
Parking Space Rental Fee*:$126,252.98

*estimated prices based on adjusted impending inflation rates of the US dollar due to excessive mortgaging of America to China.

Yep. that's about right. You guys need to include this in next year's advertising for Chapterfest.

I liked it in the end when we tried to get rid of the last t-shirt and we stopped ppl asking if they wanted to buy one: "Ok, how much?" - "Five bucks" - "No thanks!" :) I don't know what they were expecting.

Great event and doing check-in is a good way to meet the people and connect some faces to the cars that are there (I expect atleast 20 people asking to work the gate at next AutoX) =)

Many thanks go to the gatekeepers at the entrance. 'Far as I could tell, you made everybody feel welcome, and were courteous no matter what. You had one of the most important - and sometimes loneliest - jobs of all!

Well done.

By the way, is there a reason that some of us who registered online for the autocross package were not on the list at the gate? I was quite worried when they couldn't find my name on the list, but then they let me pass when I said I registered online...Obviously I was in the system because I was recognized as being registered when I checked-in for the autocross.

They were probably just looking at the wrong list.

It's kinda confusing with over 300 names on lists.

No worries.

Yeah, there were 3 separate lists (show n shine, general admisssion, and autoX) The gatekeeper probably looked at general or the show and shine list for your name.

One of my suggestions to the club president for next year was to have more than one checkpoint if possible. 2 or 3 (at best) check-in people with clipboards with the same information would probably make for a more smoother check-in. That way we can avoid the massive backups of the caravans that ran 20 deep. Just a thought.

I understand that the president doesn't organize the event. He never said he did. I just happened to mention it to him on the fly :icon_blah while I had his ear for that mo', that's all. Thanks.
