Open Invitation To All:

We will be heading to the new Summit Point TSP facility on January 10, 2009 to design a few courses that we will be using this year. As stated before, this is a completely new venue that has never been used to AutoX, so we will need to establish a few courses.

We will be meeting at FunKtion Auto at 10:00 am SHARP! and travel to Summit Point as a group. I expect that we will be down there until around 3:00 pm, but if you don't come with the group, odds are you won't be able to get in.

So, the details:

WHO: Anyone who would like to help design next year's AutoX courses
WHAT: AutoX course design @<hidden> Summit Point TSP
WHERE: Meet at FunKtion Auto
WHEN: 10:00 AM, Saturday, January 10, 2009
WHY: Well, we need to ...

Please RSVP in this thread if you would like to help us out.

Yes, your optional direction decision gate might be possible at TSP. I'll send you the lot layout and some more specifics offline if you want to mark up a course.

Do we have to meet at Funktion to go? That would be an hour or more out of the way for me... I'm probable unless it falls on a good snowboarding day.

I want to see this facility, but from the videos I watched, I'm a little nervous with the dropoff (grass/dirt) area outside and inside the skidpads.

Send me an email and we can talk. I know.

And don't worry about the dropoffs you see in the video, it's because it's not 100% finished yet. The runoff will be flush with the skidpad surface when done.

its out of the way for me too to meet at Funktion; maybe the VA folks can meet the MD folks at a place closer to SP? Harpers Ferry maybe? then we go in as a group.

however this assumes I'm going which I'm not even sure about yet :D

I can find a closer rally point for those coming from the opposite direction, however, we must arrive as a group.

I'll be happy to join the group...will see you at Funktion before 10am. Look for either a blue 335i coupe or a black Dinan 328Ci. Pray for no rain....

Absolutely. We could all use a dose of an angry bumblebee.

According to Accuweather the trip from Funknation to SP on Saturday maybe one long skidpad run. Snow here and freezing rain and sleet in Berryville. Mt Weather should be fun. I was checking the weekend weather for a herding lesson. Sunday looks better right now.

Lately Accuweather's accuracy has sucked and been worse than NWS and Bobby Ryan.

Hopefully things will change.

Pray for no rain....

Why? Rain will make things more fun. On the other hand, sleet or freezing rain will make getting there a little dicey.

Having been in Berryville at this time a year there can be a big difference in weather from the DC area and even Funknation and SP. I can hear SCCA cars running from where we trial in Berryville. Once you get to the top of Mt Weather heading west things can change big time from rain to sleet, freezing rain and snow as you get closer to Berryville and SP. There have been weekends during the winter where I just wanted to get back over Mt Weather and to Leesburg to beat the frozen precip after my runs were done. Even in my 4wd drive Element with snows its something I dont look forward too.

Sure hope the new complex doesnt piss off the track's neighbors any more than they already are. Neighbors hate Scott, BSR and the track especially after they started enduro racing into the night. I didnt realize how much until back last may when I was buying a leather leash from a lady at the trial who lived in Summit Point. Man did she hate BSR even worse than the neighbors who would accost me at the track when I coordinator back in mid 90's.

Wonder how longer the BSR has? If the residents ever get a chance to change their minds and vote again to allow full casino gambling at horse race track BSR's days maybe numbered.

If it's snowing, should I plan on testing the course in the Jeep?

In all seriousness though, can we decide on a "local" rallying point? Is there a Sheets or something nearby? Coming from Fredneck, I'll be heading straight south to Summit... Though I love you Jon with all my heart, I just can't see driving all the way to VA to see you in the morning... :icon_hug:

Just meet us at Summit Point. There's really no meeting location on the way down.

Sounds like Mark (my fellow wrench-turner you met at the last DIY) and possibly one other person. We'll be there at 10:30-45. I guess we'll meet you at the gate.

Snow? Sleet? Hmmmm. Well, if not the blue 335i or black 328 Ci, if you see a '97 red Jeep Cherokee 4x4...that will be me. At FunkTion.

It looks to me like it will be mostly light precip. I'll join in depending on the updated forecast later tonight.

Just gotta decide which wheels to put on. Did the skid pad in summer tires, but it wasn't forecasting any rain that day.

I'm coming from Frederick too.

I'm new to the club, and brand new to autocross this year, but I'd like to join you guys to see what goes in to putting courses together. I live between Berryville and SP, so I'd just meet you at the gate. You all OK with a newby lurking around?

Any ideas for tires guys? snows, all seasons, or r-comps? ive got all 3 and cant decide

noelleslie

I'm going in my snows. Although I did the skid pad there just last month and did it in summer tires in slush with good traction, my fear is that on the way there, or on the way back.. you know "bridges freeze before road surface" thing...

plus, the performance winter tires aren't horrible performers when it is cold out.. I have Dunlop M3 winter something or other. See ya there.

hmm...maybe i wont wont change them then, i have blizzak lm-22's. I just dont want to wear the hell outa them but if it is wet it shouldnt matter anyways i guess

Jim Dunlap

A wintry mix in the morning will transition to mainly rain in the afternoon. High 38F. Winds ESE at 5 to 10 mph. Chance of precip 80%.

From weather.com tonite at 8:45 pm...no snow; no sleet. Regular, even summer (?!), tires should suffice.
