View Full Version : Any golfers out there?

pseto

I'm thinking of planning a golf outing if anyone is interested. I was thinking of either a 1 day getaway (scenic drive, eat and play) or a local tournament. Let me know what you prefer.

Also, any suggestions as to what course(s) should be considered, please chime in. I've played almost all public courses in MD, and I'm familiar with many in VA and surrounding areas. Anyone willing to offer up their private club (attention Congressional members!!)?

A few of the courses I've thought about are:
Swan Point (Issue, MD)
Queenstown River (Queenstown, MD)
Bulle Rock (Havre de Grace, MD)
Maryland National (Frederick, MD)
Whiskey Creek (Frederick, MD)
Stonewall (Gainesville, VA)
Westfields (Clifton, VA)

Please let me know your thoughts.
Paul

I golf, sometimes. A drive and golf would be cool. :) I might be able to convince a buddy too, and our E36 project car.

I'm NOT a golfer, but I play a dozen or so times each season. I shoot a solid 95-110 every time, so I don't think I'd be good enough to play in a tourney... at least no one would want me on their team.

Oh, and keep it in Maryland. :)

a dozen times a season classifies you as a seasoned vet :) This will probably be a fun, non-competitive outing although I would try to pair folks based on level if they prefer. Although most may want to chose their own group, so either way is fine with me.

Glad to see we have a few more golfers out there. Its possible that if I cant get enough NCC golfers that we can open it up to non-members as well (at a higher price of course).

There's gotta be more people who play, so let me know.

Per my earlier message today, I would be interested in playing golf with fellow BMW Club members. I live in Virginia, but would not be adverse to play in Maryland since I do have a valid U.S. passport & a map.

I'd be interested. Any course will do, too. Just put me on the list and contact me when you have a better idea of date, time, cost, etc.

I used to shoot in the mid-high 70's in college. Now, I don't know where the ball is going, on a course, but I look like a pro at the range!

Should be fun.

i still want to start our own event and hopefully evolve it into something big that maybe can morph into a weekend long event in conjunction with another chapter programs.

Orlando - I wasn't sure if you were interested or not. If so, add your name to the list please.

We're making some progress here, I'm still shooting for at least 24 people.

Also, since this would be the first event, I am only looking for current members. If this event takes off and expands, then maybe non-members can be accomdated (at a higher fee, and only after preference to members are completed).

Another thought I had was whether or not your spouse would also like to participate? As long as they're a full or an associate member, this could simplify the pairings and make for an even more interesting day :)

Paul: When were you planning to arrange the first outing? I recently learned that I have a torn meniscus in one of my knees that's going to require surgery to repair. So I don't expect to be able to play golf until late spring or early summer. Perhaps I'll be relegated to driving the cart. :frown:

damn, how you' do that? you really gotta stop chasing those women, it can get too dangerous :)

i've had a torn meniscus for a few years, but since it doesnt hurt, i decided against surgery.

as for the outing, obviously it all depends on the course availability, but I was hoping for a Sat or Sun in May.

It's from the wear-n-tear of playing tennis 4-5 times a week. Surgery is really the only thing that's going to allow me to resume that schedule.

Hey all - here's a plug for Willie Lutz out at South Riding. I didn't see his posts earlier, but he's a BMW fanatic (he own's 3 right now - God bless his wife), a true wrencher, the head Pro at a Top 100 course in the Mid-Atlantic, and most importantly, he would be totally into making sure that this group was given priority treatment. I'm told he can't control the weather though. Seriously, he's a great guy.

The drive and golf sounds like fun...there are some scenic courses in WVa...probably a 2-3 hour drive...but also don't forget VA National out by the Shenandoah River. The course is just gorgeous, only 35 minutes from Leesburg, has a great 19th hole grille and bar, and isnt 'too' pricey.

I have tentatively scheduled our golf outing on the afternoon of either Sat, May 24th or Sat, May 31 at South Riding Golf Club in South Riding, VA.

http://www.southridinggc.com/view.asp?id=128&page=4210

Fellow NCC member, Willie Lutz, is the PGA pro at South Riding, and he has generously offered up his club to the chapter. We'll play an afternoon round at South Riding, followed by an on-premise cookout. He's even said we can have our own parking section so we can hangout and talk cars afterwards :)

Please let me know which date works best, May 24 or May 31. Note that May 24th is also Memorial Day weekend, so choose what works best for you and add it next to your name.

I have been working with Paul on the details and look forward to hosting/ playing with you all in May. I am good with either day and also plan to play.

My vision is to play 18 holes of scramble and follow with some food and a parking lot session. I live in the neighborhood and will be bringing out all of my toys. I just finished an extensive E30 project and would love to share it.

Hope to see you all in May.

I have finalized the date/time/location of our 1st annual NCC golf outing:

Date: Saturday, May 31, 2008
Time: 1:00p
Location: South Riding Golf Club
43237 Golf View Dr, South Riding, VA 20152

http://www.southridinggc.com/view.asp?id=128&page=4210

Format: Scramble
Cost: $30 NCC members. $50 non-members (NCC will subsidize $20/head for each member; non-members will pay full price).

Our golf outing includes green fees, cart, practice balls, BBQ dinner, and dedicated parking. We'll probably hang out with the cars after golf/food too, so bring your cameras!!!

This will NOT be a handicapped event, just a leisurely afternoon playing a great game in a non-competitive environment. Its all about fun!!!

This event will be first come, first serve, with a maximum of 32 players. Slots will be filled first by NCC members, followed by non-members.

Registration: The link to register will be updated shortly. Please plan to register online and then send me a check made out to 'NCC BMW CCA'. I need all payments by Thursday, May 15th, so please take US post office delivery times into account.

Once the registration link is completed, I will create a separate thread for this event. Please indicate in the comments section who you want to be paired with; if left blank, I'll pair you up randomly.

Also, anyone wanting to donate prizes for this event, please let me know. I’m currently working on these, and the more, the better.

A special thanks to fellow NCC member, Willie Lutz, who also happens to be the PGA professional at South Riding. He's been wanting to show us his newly restored e30 :)

Paul,

Can we pay by PayPal? That would be convenient.

I'm interested in playing. Been a member for many years just never attended any events.

I have a few co-workers that drive BMW's (non memebers) that might be interested also.

well you and your highly modded e39 needs to register and send in your check :)

also get those couch potato co-workers out there too and show them the benefits of membership. plus if they use you as a reference, you get a month free for each person you refer.

if they join now, they can get the member rate.

Just an update, I currently have 18 registered golfers and 9 checks. I'm sure I'll be getting the other 9 checks very soon(hint hint), but this also means that we're close to capacity :)

Only 6 more spots open and preference will go to those who send in their check to me first. Also, I go to all the socials, so you can also pay me face-to-face if you come on out.

I'm looking at some dates for our Spring golf outing and many of the Saturdays for April and May are conflicting with other NCC events. I also have to work around the golf courses' schedule and there are plenty of Sundays available. Anybody interested in a Sunday event or will Saturdays work best?

Paul,

You should try a tour and golf outing to Williamsburg, The Homestead or Greenbrier. Drive to The Homestead is incredible. Shame I did it in a rental Pontiac minivan after dropping my girlfriend's daughter and 4 other W&L varsity cheerleaders off at cheerleading camp at JMU several years ago.
I felt as old as Woody back then

Maybe Nemacolin in PA

Dave Apker and the collies

good idea although i'd be kinda tired from such a long drive. i have a few other non-NCC golf trips scheduled, so i cant fit in an overnight trip just yet.

I think a Sunday after lunch event would work. That way folks can do the church/family thing in the morning.

Saturdays are always good.

Paul:

As I stated in the previous email to you, I can make it either May 30th or May 31st, but have other plans the following week. Let me know whether we will be playing on a Saturday or Sunday in the Spring.

Thanks,

Dennis Follett

i got back a majority of the emails on availability, and it seems like the weekend of Sat/Sun, June 6-7 will be the date of our golf outing. Once I work out the details with the golf course, I post the details and get registration up and running.

Paul

Paul, I play a little......very little.. Please add me to the list.
Also, please consider the following courses:
Bull Run (Haymarket on Rte 15 and Sully Road, VA)
South Riding (South Riding, VA)
Pleasant Valley (down the road from South Riding, Chantilly, VA)
Raspberry Falls (Leesburg, VA, if you're going to Stonewall, consider this)
Dulles driving range (practice for those who meet at Chick-Fil-A) LOL!!

Cheers!

I still have mixed feeling towards stroke play. Just ends up in frustration with me lol esp being away for a whole season.

I still have mixed feeling towards stroke play. Just ends up in frustration with me lol esp being away for a whole season.

from what i remember about last year, there were wide variety of skill levels. even if i pair up those who are similarily talented, that would mean getting handicaps involved. same would happen if we did a scramble; handicaps in theory would prevent sandbagging but this is more about playing and having fun than winning.

i talked about this issue with Willy and we both agreed that stroke play would probably work out best for this group. if a few foursomes want to play a scramble, i wouldnt stand in their way. however, i would be concerned about pace of play; scrambles tend to take longer than stroke play (and I dont want to run out of daylight or hold up the golf course).

anyone else have an opinion?

I am volunteering (once again) for the Second Annual Navy-Marine Corps Golf Open at Naval Air Station Patuxent River on April 24th, 2009. Proceeds go to a great cause (supporting our troops and thier families).

It would be great if we could have a great showing from our chapter and the BMW enthusiast community at large. I will be posting more info soon and starting a new thread if I made a mistake by posting on this one.

Respectfully,

Orlando

Orlando,

Hopefully I'm not speaking out of turn here, but if you get the information to Paul, he can get it up on our website as a non-club event.

That's cool. Or we could make it a club event in the same way we ended one of our tours at a Winery/Jazz festival a few years back in Pennsylvania. Either way, I thought it would be cool to have some of the club down on this side of Maryland for a change. I'll post it where ever you gentleman deem appropriate. I have furnished Paul with the info. Thanks.

Lake Presidential is one of the newest and most scenic golf courses in the DC area. We were able to negotiate a great deal for NCC members $66 which includes golf and dinner (normal price for just golf is $95!!!!).
