    Red face 08/31/2012 - 09/02/2012 - Baltimore Grand Prix - 2012

    By AP - Associated Press - February 11, 2012
Baltimore to announce new deal on racing festival
BALTIMORE — Baltimore Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake says the city is finalizing an agreement with a new operator of the Baltimore Grand Prix.
The mayor said in a statement Friday that the city would announce terms of the five-year deal on Wednesday.
The deal is scheduled to be presented to the city’s Board of Estimates on Feb. 22.
The mayor said last year’s Grand Prix, held over Labor Day weekend, generated $47 million in economic impact.
She did not say who the city was negotiating with to operate the racing festival. She said the city would not have any further comment until Wednesday.
The city in December terminated its contract with the race’s organizers, Baltimore Racing Development, after the group failed to pay $1.5 million owed to the city.

The city Board of Estimates votes on the race on Wed., The Mayor has 3 votes of the 5,according to the Sunpaper, although the Board's site says otherwise.I've queried them about the voting system,or lack therof.

Each member of the Board of Estimates has an independent vote. Note, however, that the City Solicitor and the Director of Public Works are under the executive branch of government, so indirectly (or not so indirectly) controlled by the Mayor. Both of these positions are mayoral appointments (subject to council approval, I believe).

An investor in the 2011 race told me that the name "Baltimore Grand Prix" is owned by last year's promoter so it will be interesting to see if the name changes or a deal is struck.

Seeing as how the BGP is for sure going to happen, when should the tickets go on sale for the cub parking? I joined the NCC AFTER the BGP last year so I don't know how that worked...

Last I've read on their Facebook page, tickets will go on sale within 30 days (that was at least 2 weeks ago). However, they also said car corral packages may not go on sale at the same time. They've already postponed ticket sales a few times so not sure what to believe.

I do know that there are few other pressing issues that they are working on like an agreement with MSA and getting a title sponsor. Stay tuned b/c once we get corral info it will be shared on the website first.

I think the basic question may be whether there will be a BGP this year.

That article is a little dated, and talks about the former promoters. Tickets will be on sale on May 28. http://www.raceonbaltimore.com/

A week ago, I had my doubts about this year, but with the new promoters and contracts, it looks like a go.

New promoter must come to terms with MD Stadium Authority and find a title sponsor, 2 of the main items that the previous promoter did not do. Hopefully this is a go this time, although I would think that corral tickets wont go on sale at the same time as general admissions.

Paul, you and the rest of your team did a fantastic job last year so I hope the car corral will be a go this year. I am pumped for another great raceweekend. Any chance we could make it an event in which folks can display their cars by model or type and maybe allow any who may have a car to sell to put it on display?

I have a cherry E24 635CSi that I have just finished restoring that I might have for sale.

nervous, nervous - I am not heavily interested in getting a ticket with a seat assigned 'cause I like to walk around. That, and the on-site parking were what I liked most about last year. On the other hand, if the car corral is not a definite go I would like to get the best vantage point in whatever grandstand I get my ticket - which might imply getting it early.

I know this is really a tight timeframe for the new team, but I hope they get the club arrangements organized soon. I can't wait!

Ticket sales have begun. It looks like the only reserved seats available at this time are 3-day packages, with Saturday or Sunday only reserved seats available on 7/15/12.

    Last article I read:

    http://wheels.blogs.nytimes.com/2012...or-grand-prix/

Still haven't heard from anyone at RaceOn or Andretti Marketing about car corrals.
