Special tool for rear main seal!?!?!?!

Putting in a new rear main seal during the engine rebuild, and missed the special tools listed in the Bentley.

Are they absolutely necessary, because I can't find them anywhere?

I'll assume the tool is just a large circular drift to press the seal into its hole,
i've never used the "correct tool" but have tapped many new seals into place with homemade tools with no failures. The larger diameters are really easy to do with a small hammer.

Yeah that's what the drawing in the manual looks like. May just try taping it in with a large block of wood and a hammer.
