    (2010) WDCR-SCCA Solo Championship Event #2

Almost missed tech trying to find the new lot. Was hoping to see the usual suspects but didn't see Nick or Mike. Saw Noel and AJ leaving as I was running to register and Ron was in heat 5 with me. This new lot is relatively smaller and I would guess that the average course time was around 45 or so. I was told that we'd be using this lot for the remainder of the season, including NE divisionals and ProSolo. Video up later tonight of my incompetence for the morbidly curious. I take consolation in the fact that I was told I did a good job announcing.

    Here's the video:

AJ wins ST with 44.326 and Noel gets the third spot in STR with 43.333! Can't wait to see your videos so I can see where I went wrong. At least I'm not the slowest M3 out there ...

You need to get on the gas much sooner than you are in this vid. Not sure how your times compared, but I think you probably lost 2-3+ seconds on the whole course because you got on the gas way too late on corner exit. Maybe your tires don't stick that well, but that's the one major thing I noticed. Also, a couple turns could have been smoother. How did you compare to the rest in your class?

I see what you're saying, I'm waiting for the wheels to straighten out before getting on the gas. I'll work on that. I came in dead last in STU again but I was much closer to the next person than I was last time:

I wish I could have been out there with you guys, but I was at the Avon breast cancer walk with my wife. The weather held out for us (for the most part) so I'm sure it must have been a good time over there too!

Was that 3 different pavement types I spotted in the video? This is going to be an interesting lot. Was any of the darker stuff the new sealed surface, or just older darker paving?

Here the video of my 3rd and fastest run in STR I ended up 2nd just ahead of Noel and Joe with a time of 43.161. This class has been very tight every outing thus far and seems like anyone of about 5 or 6 drivers could win every event. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_QgdV-hilUI

Mike R: The grip of the lot is very good. The only downfalls are that the lot is small, and that there are few pavement gaps of up to four inches and about 1/2" deep. It was actually really fun, and I would consider it the best location if not previously spoiled by the SCCA A/B lots and E/F lots, which take everything to a new level. This felt like a "club version" of the normal "enterprising" feel of WDCR SCCA.

Mike M: I sent you a PM about something I was going go post here. Your driving has improved, but by the end of the season you will be "unleashed" on STU.

Was a good event. Jasons RSX is now running the best it ever has after tinkering with some more suspension stuff. The tires got waaay over heated even with a water sprayer... Mid summer events should be interesting. The event ran smooth and real fast. I could have been home by 12:30 if I wanted to, that's never happened at any of the wdcr events I've been to.

Looking at the results, I cannot believe how competitive wdcr really is. In about 10 classes it could have been anyone for top positions. Many of the top 3-5 positions were around or under half a second of eahother...

I should have my video and jasons video up later today hopefully.

I believe it was only 2, none of that slick stuff. There was lots of grip out there. I don't know how they'll do the pro solo on this lot. this course, as you can see from the times, is fairly small. To mirror 2 good courses on there would be real hard.

STR was really close… we were switching positions in every run. The course was great, but I was hitting redline at the top and letting of the gas before the next turn. I rather run in this lot than in that black stuff again.
I will post some videos later.

Two sounds about right. Either way, I didn't notice any change in grip between any of the areas of the course in terms of just surface. It was good all around I thought.

I'm pretty jealous of the folks that could geat near (or find) their rev limiter on the top of the lot, my poor Corolla doesn't have near enough power to climb the hill and find it's cutoff point. The first and second runs I was screaming at the car, trying to will some power out of it to gain some speed, but to no avail =/

Here's our videos in the RSX. I could'nt edit my video, I used my girlfriends camera to record and it uses some format that I can't edit in the programs I tried so I just uploaded the raw video...

I love the braking into the sweeper after the top slalom. Nailed the zone dead on Brother. That's the distance I was looking for and couldn't find.

STR is really something else. I got 9th and missed 8th by 0.05 seconds. In the top 10 nobody was more than half a second away from the next guy. I don't know if I could have found the one full second that would have got me close to the top 5 but it's not outside the realm of possibility. Just knowing that everyone's that close has me pretty pumped for the rest of the season.

I have no beef with the lot. It's still better than Bowie, though probably not as good as Waldorf. There are ruts and I'm glad I'm using my 'softer' car. I thought I'd find the rev limiter on the top of the hill but never quite got there even though I was pretty much hammer-down all the way up and across that hill.

Kate showed up to take some pics and we got a few posted here: http://www.claffie.com/photos/100502/index.html
