RE: I need a BMW mechanic who understands vapor barrier & water leaks

I have a 2002 M5 with 74,000 miles. The problem; I have a water leak issue in the rear door panels. Allow me to attempt to explain- When it rains, water runs off the window around the door track. The rear *floor board area has puddle of water [Where you place your feet while seating].

In July of 2006, I replaced the rear left & right door insul-BMW part number # 51-48-8-230-221. As you know, the BMW mechanic removed both rear door panels and removed a black thin lining-I believe it keeps the water outside. Hopefully, you can help me with this unnerving problem. Once again, when it rains, it really ruins my day…

    Thanks

PS-Please help me with this problem-can you say M5 in garage????

I just resealed the rear doors on my buddy's '03 530i. The main problem is failure of the sealant. I removed the old insulators and thoroughly cleaned the sealing surface of the door and installed new insulators using 3M Ribbon Sealer 08610. This stuff is a really sticky sealant and I don't expect the doors will ever leak again.

    Hope this helps.

That's what we used at BMW of Towson, great stuff. Also, invest in new door clips with the rubber seals on them.
