e39 540i mtech headlight auto leveler / front angle joint

I need some help, and apologize if this is repeated somewhere on this site. My 2003 e39 540i m-tech's xenon headlights on low beam are not auto leveling anymore. I have adjusted the vertical height allen key knobs on the headlights as per the Bentley manual, but they are still not right. I have done some research and I think the problem is the front angle joint or headlight level connecting rod.

Is this a DIY fix, and where do I find the connecting rod? couldn't find a diagram on realoem.com

If not a DIY fix, where is the best indy shop to get this taken care of? As it's getting daker early and late, I am concerned about a safety issue.

The replacement regulating rod depends on the suspension & headlight type, so put your VIN into the serial number box at realoem.com to get to the proper application. The rod is shown under the suspension section:
