Northeast Maryland Tour to Auburn Heights and Longwood Gardens (Delaware)

Come enjoy a cruise through the Northeast Maryland and the Delaware Red Clay Valley with Stops at the Auburn Heights Car Collection and Longwood Botanical Gardens!

Starting from the Fresh Market in Towson at 7:30am, right off 695, we will head north east into the countryside until we hit the Susquehanna River,crossing at the Conowingo Dam From there we head east to Milburn Orchards, a good place to take a break and pick up fruit, pies or other sweet treats. Estimated arrival time is between 9:15am and 9:30am.

After a short stop we will push through the Red Clay Valley, enjoying the riverside scenery, until we reach our second stop at Longwood Gardens, a former DuPont Estate and one the best Botanical Gardens on the east coast. Feel free to wander at your leisure and enjoy the wonderful gardens, including an Italian water garden with over 750 water jets and plants from around the world in the main greenhouse, plus several tree houses. This will be our lunch stop as well. There are dining options at Longwood and places to picnic if you want to bring your own food! Arrival time at the Gardens is between 10:30am and 10:45am.

We will regroup at 2:30 and get back on the road toward our next stop, Auburn Heights Preserve, after a short but twisty drive paralleling the Red Clay Creek. We should arrive by 3:00pm. The Marshall Steam Museum at the Auburn Heights Preserve houses the world's largest operating collection of Stanley Steam Cars, plus several other vehicles, including a vintage electric car and two 1930's Twin-Six Packards. There are tours of the Victorian Mansion and museum plus rides in Stanley Steam cars as well as the 1/8th scale Steam Trains that circle the property, plus free steam popped popcorn.

After Auburn Heights, we will depart for our last stop at the Woodside Creamery (voted #4 Best Creamery in the Entire US by Trip Advisor!) for a refreshing last stop to end the day. We should arrive by 4:45pm.

Costs to be determined, but worst case is $45 per person for admission to Longwood and Auburn Heights plus an optional Mansion tour.

FYI, Longwood Gardens is in Kennett Square, PA, not DE. It's close to the DE line, but nevertheless... Wouldn't want anyone to get lost.
