I tried to register and noticed that the options for Requested Session were only AM or PM (vs 1- 4 in the past). I am just wondering if you guys changed it back to just AM/PM and no longer use 1-4. Sorry if it's been discussed before.

That's correct. We tried something new and it failed. We're going back to the old way.

Is there a chance it would work if caps were put on each of the 4 sessions to even things out? I like the option, but if I was late signing up I'd be OK with a run group no longer being available. I'd just have to pick another.

BTW, has Noel or Woody signed up yet?

It would work perfect if we didn't cater to walk-ups ...

Until we go to 100% online registration and accept no-walkups (possibly next year), we will need to revert to the old system.

I believe the rule is 1 entry per driver. You'll have to pick a car and stick with it.

hey i have a question about the same type of thing.

There are 4 of us that have been competing all year and wanna see who is the better driver. We all want to race the same car. I believe thats possible but i wasnt sure how we should register/what would be a good system for 4 people to drive the same car.

Reach
10-13-2009, 10:48 AM
4 people 1 car is no issue, as long as the car is up to it :). You could probably run 2 and 2 in just 1 of the morning or afternoon session, but I'm sure the timing booth would like it if you split the runs up across the entire day. Its your call, but I don't see it being any issue.

So....I found a nail in my left-front last night and I need to get it plugged. Does anyone this can pose a problem during autocross? I'd rather not blow out a tire...

woodym3
10-20-2009, 09:28 AM
As long as it's in the tread rather than the sidewall, and the plug/patch is done properly, no problem in my opinion. Paul at Radial Tire once told me my plugged tire would be fine at a DE on Charlotte/Lowes Motor Speedway's high banks.

Yeah as long as the nail is about an inch in from the sidewall it'll be fine.

I'm sure I'm not the only one who thinks that if the decorating is actually on (or near) the cake, it's all good. I'm looking forward to it, and it'll be even sweeter if it can be celebration cake if I somehow manage to take the T2 trophy  Probably won't be much left by then, though.

Don't know how the M3 part came in there. I actually never made it to any event with the E36, but the car is running well now and should be there saturday. Probably a downgrade in autox terms from the E30 318 (but requires less point-bys at the track) :)

Hey Jonathan, there's a Mercedes C63 classed in S1 for Saturday. I'm not complaining about it. I say bring on the other German Manufacturer, let's get some dust kicked up. I guess I just wanted to be the first to point this out.

Exactly. It's not defined at specifically 20 minutes, but that's a good rule of thumb. I like the 30 min approach myself.

Staring down all this rain I am leaning towards a vehicular change. My 99 Miata is pretty torquey (relatively speaking) so I might switch to the wife's 93 Miata which isn't fast enough to lose control regardless of conditions, and I don't care as much if it gets dirty. Its tires won't force a class change so I am hoping this won't cause a problem for organizers.

I make it rain, make it rain, make it rain on them cones. Seriously, it has rained during my heat at 5/7 events with NCC and 2/3 events with other clubs. However, today was the first time I've had my engine flooded (or something, I'm a rocket scientist, not a mechanic) during an autox. Spent a good 2 hours completely broke down on the side of Crain highway after the event, but the service engine light is now off so I guess it sorted itself out.

Great course by the way, wish I could have seen it dry, or damp, or in any shape less than flooded. Thanks to all the organizers for the awesome season, I can't even comprehend the total effort put into it.

Those of us that ran in the last group drove in a monsoon, I felt like I was on a ride at a water park. The ride home on slicks was a white knuckle affair also. Saw 3 seperate incidents were cars had spun into guard rails.

Last group was a washout. Got two good runs in but between the second and third the skies just freakin opened on us. Lots of standing water on the course. At the bottom lot where the tight turns were I was seeing water splashing onto my hood and I got a little hydroplaney coming up the hill into the slalom.

But as bad as it was for me driving, I really felt bad for the guys shagging cones in the downpour. I've been in some unpleasant conditions working courses but nothing like that.

I don't think I got a clean run in, I'm pretty sure I was off course my first run through and I know I was off the second time. Pretty sure I was clean through third and fourth runs but in the downpour, times surely stunk. On the plus side, they probably stunk for everyone regardless if they had 300+HP or my measly 110HP.

I was pleasantly surprised with how well the wife's car ran despite it being a completely stock 121K mile base model Miata on halfway decent street tires.

Found the course to be awful tight, you guys and all your torque really stuck it to us little engine people but I had a good time, looking forward to running with you guys next season.

I'll be interested in hearing how the weather developed in the afternoon heats.

The first half of the PM group got three dry runs. A couple of us got a fourth before the rain. Noel was only 5 cars behind me in line, but got screwed by the rain that started in between our runs. The second half of the PM was not fun, as I was working the middle of the "skid pad" section then helped break things down. Seriously, it felt like they got seven very sloppy runs each. I've never been more wet. Fortunately I brought clothes to change into for the ride home. Also, I think I won  (T2, that is)

We completed another year with no injuries, and only a few mishaps where vehicle damage was done, and they were not the result of the autocross committee's decisions. WE is everyone, so thank you all for being safe, and an all around great bunch of people to spend soggy afternoons with.

Here is a video of a dry run from the day. Shortly after, it poured like 40 days style.

Ha Ha... You're right.

But that nothwithstanding, it still seemed like I was being penalized... so close to the line when it started pouring. Maybe because I punched that old lady in the face last week for looking at me wrong? Was the rain a divine message of disapproval?

Like Phil said... "it's just what it is." He then pointed out that all of his runs were going to be wet, [so I really should be quiet].

Funny you should say that, Ron has two mounts for cameras -- one on the front bumper and another on the top of the backseat. I'll lend him my camcorder next time so I can post his runs.

I've got (and use) cameras for both those mounts, but I rarely upload the videos because I live in the 90's still for internet speed (satellite). Earlier this year I posted a bumper cam run that looked super smooth, then posted the in-car to show the non-smooth action inside the car. I think I even did a PIP of those two. For yesterday I didn't bother, but I think I have the other six events I did. Maybe I'll do a montage :) I can be my first try at a music track and text graphics.

Mike, try flushing your brake fluid before next season.

What is this, a running joke? :) I'm going to be brake fluid man next year. Nah... I'll do the whole thing this winter.

Thanks. Here are some pics I took.

Nice pics, but shouldn't some be replaced with a big DISQUALIFIED?

Wow, I'm psyched to get 3rd in comp tires "other", putting up my fastest run in the deluge.

Alejandro, congrats on FTD!

What camera are you using? Film quality is really good...

I have a Walmart Special. It's used by a lot of track guys. Craig Brickner pointed it out to me.

Go to walmart.com and buy it.. it is cheap.

Here is the link to how to set it up. I also got the wide angle lens.

First FTD ever for me!
Here's my video. 4th run in the video is my fastest and the 5th run I had a little sideways fun:tongue:

Congratulations, AJ! I'm going to try to make it out to the remaining CDC events, maybe I'll see you there.

I was wondering how long it would take you to call me out on a pathetic performance! I tried blaming Bogdan all day long but this was solidly a day full of driver error for me.

Let me show you how it's done: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AcGuDyIMOaY. You could watch AJ's FTD run, but I think this is more achievable. ;)

Seriously, though, if there was anyone who could have challenged Bogdan yesterday, I thought it would be you. Some guy named Clint beat him in event #4 so it is possible.

Those of us that ran in the last group drove in a monsoon, I felt like I was on a ride at a water park. The ride home on slicks was a white knuckle affair also. Saw 3 seperate incidents were cars had spun into guard rails.

Rt. 50 was literally flooded out when JT and I drove through it.

I couldn't move over, I was pinned in by traffic.

I just shut the engine off and drifted through the water.

You shut down? It wasn't that bad...

At least for me it wasn't. Having a 4x4 suspension was a good thing for that little bit!

I was a little worried about my intake but it was on the "dry" side. If it had been on the passenger's side that one might have flooded me.

My intake is no greater than 6" off the ground. So yes, I had to be careful. I've heard that superchargers can't compress water ...

Ok.. who ordered the rain?

Last time I saw rain like that our big tent frame broke and a table blew into my 335. :(

205 - aftermarket exhaust T1

142 - leave unchanged (disregard previous)

290 - stock tires XS

Wow... I really wanted to go but the rain and my intake don't go together well, plus I have done enough rain events this year.

Thanks to the ax committee for a great AX season, even the Summit Point slide track was fun, I had a loose diff. on Saturday, very distracting, 2 bolts were GONE!, decided against a 4th run, so I could make it back to Harford county. Then I drove to Westminster in the Miata through the most torrential rain I've ever seen, must have been incredible to AX in!

I definitely sent the gf a text after my 3rd run saying it was the most amazing conditions ever fun-wise, but then my car drowned on the 4th run so maybe I should have chosen to sit that one out too, haha.

Anyway, here's my pumpkin I carved yesterday:

I have been trying to get some interest in some sort of mid-winter skid pad event where we can have one part be instruction, and another be a skid pad challenge of sorts where we see who can make the most circuits in drift.

I have found skid pad practice invaluable in sensing available traction. My Z4 [still] has an open differential, which makes the pad difficult, but I would love to bring my 1994 Miata M out to an event and see what it'll do with its Torsen LSD.

Maybe with enough interest and some coaxing, we can get some winter "beat the rust off" events going.

This was last winter... don't laugh too hard... the surface wasn't consistent since it had ice, slush, and just wet spots. Also, my car isn't set up to drift. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=isS-tNQixlk
Still though, it was super fun, and I learned a lot.

Thanks man. Hopefully the CDC event isn't rained on...Usually they don't use the lower low but last event they held there I heard they did. I hope they do.

If you're referring to the 10/10 event, then they did not use the lower lot and the course came out to be 33 seconds long; however, they had basically a full-throttle section that extended from 20ish meters from the islands all the way to 30ish meters from the opposite corner, which was awesome.

1. I also drove a 59.405 in a stock Z4M at the end of the day, in the torrential downpout, so shhhh.

2. Clint is an amazing driver and would kick all of our butts if he showed up. His car is also fully setup for STU, so its T1 legal and has oodles more grip than we do. But, truthfully with driver skill alone he'd whoop me anyway.

3. There is no #3. (Great runs Mike!)

The rain was nuts!

I can't wait to run tires that aren't bald next season. I put a beating on those PS2's. :( Maybe I can be faster than T2 if I manage to put the power down. :p

I'm staying on street tires, so it should be fun in T1 next year. :)

Sorry I took forever to get pics up this time guys! The nice part is that there's some new pricing for this event as well as more stuff. Not just downloads but prints, mugs, t-shirts and tons of other stuff. Check it out - think of it as money to buy things the program needs for next year.
